The autumn festival dedicated to the Val Brembana Apple
In the upper Val Brembana, province of Bergamo, autumn brings one of the most cherished events for the valley's producers and inhabitants: the Sagra della Mela e dei Prodotti Tipici della Val Brembana. At its heart is the Mela Val Brembana, a brand that identifies mountain fruit growing based on quality, tradition, and sustainability.
The sagra (traditional festival) is a comprehensive showcase of the valley's agricultural work: tastings of apples and derived products, exhibitions dedicated to local varieties, competitions, technical conferences on the future of fruit growing, and direct sales not only of apples but also of other local gastronomic products and crafts. A concrete opportunity to buy directly from producers and understand the value of a short, mountain-based supply chain.
Behind the event is the Association of Fruit Growers and Farmers of Val Brembana (AFAVB), which has been working for years to promote the apple as an identity product of the valley. A central theme is the generational transition: more and more young people are choosing to continue their family's agricultural activities, ensuring continuity for a tradition that intertwines landscape, local economy, and food culture.
For those visiting the Orobie valleys in autumn, the Sagra della Mela is the ideal opportunity to combine a trip through the villages of the upper Val Brembana with the discovery of its flavours. Among the stalls of the sagra, you can feel the identity of a territory that makes mountain fruit growing a source of pride.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra della Mela e dei Prodotti Tipici della Val Brembana is confirmed for the third Sunday of October (October 17–18, 2026). The Association of Fruit Growers and Farmers of Val Brembana, chaired by Olga Locatelli, promises a particularly lively event, with special attention to the generational transition among the valley's fruit growers. The traditional ingredients of the sagra are confirmed: tastings, exhibitions, competitions, conferences, and direct sales of apples, gastronomic products, and local crafts.
The detailed hourly program will be published closer to the event by the Association of Fruit Growers and Farmers of Val Brembana.
The upper Val Brembana can be reached from Bergamo by taking the SS470 della Val Brembana road northwards. Piazza Brembana is one of the main centres of the upper valley; the association's activities also revolve around nearby municipalities such as Moio de' Calvi.
The sagra traditionally takes place on the third Sunday of October.
