Roasted chestnuts, polenta, and an antique market in the upper Valle Scrivia
The Sagra della Castagna (Chestnut Festival) of Crocefieschi is one of the events that mark the arrival of autumn in the upper Valle Scrivia, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa. The chestnut, a symbolic fruit of the Ligurian Apennine woods, has been a precious food for mountain communities for centuries, and the festival celebrates its harvest and gastronomic tradition.
The protagonists of the day are the typical autumn dishes: polenta, grilled sausages, and especially the fragrant, steaming roasted chestnuts, prepared according to tradition. The food stalls, set up by volunteers, offer local specialities in a village festival atmosphere.
Enriching the festival are the antique market, which enlivens the village streets with stalls of vintage items and curiosities, and live music. Organised by the Pro Loco of Crocefieschi and included among the Autentici Liguri events, the Sagra della Castagna is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Genoese hinterland and to taste the products of a mountain land.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra della Castagna is scheduled for October 11. The Pro Loco's food stalls offer autumn specialities from the region, while the antique market and live music complete a day of celebration in the heart of the Valle Scrivia.
Detailed hourly schedule to be announced by the Pro Loco of Crocefieschi in the preceding days.
