The Castagnata dei Fieschi is the oldest chestnut festival in Vallescrivia, in Savignone (Province of Genoa). An autumn festival that intertwines two souls: the gastronomic one, linked to roasted chestnuts and typical products of the hinterland, and the historical one, dedicated to the Fieschi family, one of the most powerful families of medieval Liguria.
A Grand Historical Reenactment
The heart of the event is the historical reenactment, with costume parades, ladies and knights, flag wavers, and medieval entertainment curated by historical groups such as the Storica Corte dei Fieschi, the Sestieri di Lavagna, and the Sestrese. Among the most evocative events is the reenactment of the minting of the ancient local coin, the "Vergagnino".
Markets, Flavors, and Tradition
Accompanying the reenactment are the markets, stands with typical products, and the unmissable chestnuts, in a weekend that attracts visitors from all over the Genoa area. Recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events funded by the Region, the Castagnata dei Fieschi is one of the most beloved autumn festivals in the hinterland.
Castagnata dei Fieschi — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Castagnata dei Fieschi returns in October to Savignone, confirmed as one of the Authentic Ligurian Events. Following the traditional structure, the historic center will host the roasted chestnuts, markets, and the historical reenactment of the Fieschi, with parades, flag wavers from historical groups (Storica Corte dei Fieschi, Sestieri di Lavagna, Sestrese), medieval entertainment, and the reenactment of the "Vergagnino" minting. The final date will be announced by the Municipality.

How to get there
By car: A7 Milan–Genoa motorway, Busalla exit, then towards Savignone. By train: Savignone–Casella station on the Vallescrivia line. The festival takes place in the historic center.
