Two evenings on Via Venezia dedicated to Mozzarella di Bufala Campana
The Sagra della Bufalina is the summer event that brings Via Venezia in Mondragone, on the Domitian coast in the province of Caserta, to life every July. Originally started as a street party promoted by residents and the neighborhood committee, it has grown over the years into one of the most popular food and wine events in this part of Campania: two evenings where the street fills with stalls, tables, lights, and music to celebrate DOP Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and the dairy products produced in the plains surrounding the city.
The festival's name refers to the buffalo and its milk, around which the local dairy economy has revolved for centuries. The mozzarella arrives at the stalls fresh daily and is served in the simplest way possible, accompanied by local bread and tomatoes: a deliberate choice, as the festival aims to let visitors taste the product just as it is, without mediation. Alongside the mozzarella, there is space for other dairy derivatives and traditional Mondragone specialties.
The Sagra della Bufalina is not just about tasting. Along the entire length of Via Venezia, there are craft markets and exhibition areas dedicated to local trades and producers, while a stage hosts free musical performances every evening. Over the years, artists from the Neomelodic and Campanian pop scene have performed, alongside formats dedicated to dance hits, with programming designed for an intergenerational audience. There is also a dedicated space for children, with games and entertainment, making the evening suitable for families.
A coastal town overlooking the Gulf of Gaeta and dominated by Mount Petrino, Mondragone is at the center of one of the most important buffalo farming areas in Italy. The plain between the Volturno and Garigliano rivers, historically called Terra di Lavoro, is the production heart of DOP Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, and the festival was born specifically to tell this story: behind every ball of mozzarella are farmers, cheesemakers, and a technique passed down from generation to generation. For visitors from outside the region, it is the most direct way to understand why, in Campania, buffalo mozzarella is not just an ingredient, but a piece of collective identity.
Those who have been before speak mostly of the atmosphere: a neighborhood street that becomes a pedestrian zone and meeting place for two nights, with families coming out after sunset, shared tables, the scent of fried food and mozzarella, and music accompanying the stroll until late at night. It is a popular festival in the most authentic sense of the term, far from artificial, tourist-oriented formulas.
Starting as a Via Venezia initiative, the Sagra della Bufalina reached its twelfth edition in 2026, maintaining its original approach: free admission, management entrusted to the committee and neighborhood operators, and a focus on local producers. Its timing at the end of July makes it a reference point in the Caserta summer calendar, often included in the itineraries of those spending their holidays on the Domitian coast.
In 2026, the Sagra della Bufalina reached its twelfth edition, confirming the format of the weekend at the end of July on Via Venezia, in Mondragone. For two nights, the street became an open-air gastronomic route, with stalls dedicated to DOP Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, dairy products, and typical items from the province of Caserta.
Alongside the food and wine section, both evenings hosted craft markets, exhibition areas dedicated to local producers and businesses, and a space with games and entertainment for children, designed to make the event family-friendly.
The musical program, entirely free, accompanied both evenings: the first with a live show by Bema and Stefania Lay, the second with Nostalgia 90, the format dedicated to the pop and dance hits that defined the nineties.
Stands open in the evening and activities continue until late at night. The program may be subject to change by the organizers.
The event takes place along Via Venezia, in Mondragone (ZIP 81034), in the province of Caserta. During the evenings, the street is closed to traffic and becomes completely pedestrian.
The stalls open in the evening, roughly after 7:00 PM, and activities continue until late at night. Admission is free, as is access to the musical performances; you only pay for food and drinks at the stalls, according to the prices set by individual exhibitors.
