About Casereccio Festival

The Casereccio Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in the Caserta region. Every year, between late July and early August, the village of Caianello Vecchio comes alive around Largo Pantano to celebrate the rustic, home-style cuisine of the Campanian hinterland: homemade gnocchi, ciceri e tagliariegli, porchetta, tripe in tomato sauce, and fried pizza. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the event blends authentic flavors, live folk music, and local crafts in an atmosphere of genuine village conviviality.

A historic festival in the Caserta hinterland

The Casereccio Festival is a staple of the summer in Caianello, a small town in the province of Caserta, Campania. Now in its fourth decade, the event takes place in the picturesque setting of Largo Pantano, in the heart of Caianello Vecchio, where ancient stone houses and narrow alleys provide the backdrop for four nights of celebration, taste, and tradition.

Rustic cuisine takes center stage

The festival's name pays homage to casereccio, meaning everything made at home according to old-fashioned recipes. The event focuses on the peasant cuisine of the Campanian hinterland, rooted in families who knew how to turn a few simple, genuine ingredients into flavorful dishes. Specialties featured at the food stalls every year include:

  • Homemade gnocchi with tomato sauce;
  • Ciceri e tagliariegli, the traditional pasta and chickpeas with handmade tagliolini;
  • Tripe in tomato sauce, a symbol of rustic cuisine;
  • Grilled sausage and porchetta;
  • Fried pizza and artisanal dairy products.

Everything is paired with local wine and cold beer, served in spacious dining areas set up for the occasion.

Music, folklore, and conviviality

The Casereccio Festival is more than just gastronomy. Every evening, starting at 9 PM, the village fills with live folk music, featuring folk bands, tammurriata dancers, and traditional Campanian artists performing in Largo Pantano until late. Alongside the food stalls, you will find local crafts and stands selling traditional products, creating an authentic village fair atmosphere where residents and visitors gather around the values of sharing and memory.

An event organized by the Pro Loco

The event is managed by the Pro Loco of Caianello, which has kept this tradition alive for over forty years with the goal of promoting the village of Caianello Vecchio, its recipes, and its identity. Over the years, the festival has become a landmark for the entire province of Caserta and for the many tourists who, in the heart of summer, seek an authentic experience away from the major tourist circuits.

Why attend

Those who come to Caianello for the Casereccio Festival discover a simple and genuine way to experience the Campanian interior: good food at affordable prices, live music, the cool August evenings, and the hospitality of a community proud of its roots. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the flavors of the Caserta tradition in a setting full of charm.
