The Casereccio Festival is a staple of the summer in Caianello, a small town in the province of Caserta, Campania. Now in its fourth decade, the event takes place in the picturesque setting of Largo Pantano, in the heart of Caianello Vecchio, where ancient stone houses and narrow alleys provide the backdrop for four nights of celebration, taste, and tradition.

Rustic cuisine takes center stage

The festival's name pays homage to casereccio, meaning everything made at home according to old-fashioned recipes. The event focuses on the peasant cuisine of the Campanian hinterland, rooted in families who knew how to turn a few simple, genuine ingredients into flavorful dishes. Specialties featured at the food stalls every year include:

• Homemade gnocchi with tomato sauce;
• Ciceri e tagliariegli, the traditional pasta and chickpeas with handmade tagliolini;
• Tripe in tomato sauce, a symbol of rustic cuisine;
• Grilled sausage and porchetta;
• Fried pizza and artisanal dairy products.
