The Quattordio zucchini festival, featuring De.Co cuisine and the patronal feast
Every year, at the end of June, the small town of Quattordio, in the Province of Alessandria, transforms into the kingdom of zucchini with the Sagra dei Sicot. Organized by the Pro Loco Quattordio with the patronage of the Municipality, the event coincides with the Patronal Feast of Saint Peter, the town's patron saint (June 29), traditionally celebrated in the last week of the month. It is one of the most beloved festivals in south-eastern Piedmont, blending rural identity, fine dining, and entertainment.
In the local dialect, sicot are battered fried zucchini flowers, the true symbol of the festival. The menu revolves around zucchini, a De.Co (Municipal Designation of Origin) product of Quattordio: zucchini with eggs, sweet and sour zucchini, and other preparations that showcase the humble yet creative cuisine of this land. The food stalls also feature great classics of Piedmontese cuisine, from agnolotti to mixed grills, as well as fried anchovies and other local traditional dishes.
The Sagra dei Sicot is not just about gastronomy: it is, above all, a meeting point for the entire town and visitors arriving from neighboring municipalities. Among the most popular events is the bocce tournament, a classic sport in the Monferrato lands that attracts enthusiasts and skilled players alike. There is no shortage of dance evenings, live music, and entertainment designed for children, making the festival a celebration for all ages.
Now in its nearly fiftieth edition, the Sagra dei Sicot is a fundamental piece of Quattordio's identity. Created to promote a humble product like the zucchini and to honor the patron saint, it has become a landmark in the calendar of Piedmontese festivals at the beginning of summer. The heart of the event is the Town Hall and the town center, where stalls, stands, and shows are concentrated.
The 49th Sagra dei Sicot returns to Quattordio from June 25 to 30, 2026, confirming the end-of-June appointment with the Saint Peter Patronal Feast. Once again this year, the heart of the festival will be the Town Hall and the town center, with the Pro Loco food stalls dedicated to sicot and De.Co zucchini dishes, accompanied by musical evenings, dancing, and the traditional bocce tournament.
The detailed day-by-day program, with times and events, will be published by the Pro Loco Quattordio and the Municipality in the weeks preceding the event.
