One of the oldest gastronomic festivals in Friuli, in Remanzacco for over 130 years
With over 130 years behind it, the Sagra dei Gamberi e del Forno Rurale in Remanzacco is a true institution of Friulian gastronomy: the 139th edition was held in 2025, a testament to a tradition that spans generations. Every July, the Piazza dell'Amicizia in Remanzacco, a municipality in the province of Udine on the road to Cividale, transforms for three days into the realm of shrimp, in a celebration that combines good food, music, and conviviality.
The absolute protagonists are, of course, the shrimp, prepared by the cooks according to traditional recipes: alla catalana (catalan style), in saôr (Adriatic-style sweet and sour marinade), and in other versions that change from year to year. Accompanying them are sparkling wines and a rich selection of other offerings: fried calamari, fritters, battered vegetables, French fries, and the unmissable grilled meats. The reference to the "forno rurale" (rural oven) evokes the village's peasant memory and its ancient communal ovens.
The program alternates elegant moments and evenings of pure fun: from the refined dinner under the stars on opening night, by reservation, to nights dedicated to dance music and the greatest hits of the past, with DJ sets and live concerts. For the little ones, a play area with inflatables is always set up, making it a festival truly for all ages.
Behind the event is the Pro Loco Comune Remanzacco APS, which, with the patronage of the Municipality and the support of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, organizes the festival every year, also focusing on sustainability with the use of reusable tableware. An event that, edition after edition, continues to fill the square and make itself talked about throughout the region.
After the 139th edition in 2025, the historic festival of Remanzacco continues its long journey with the 2026 edition, scheduled for July in Piazza dell'Amicizia. The three-day format is confirmed: the refined dinner under the stars on opening night, the musical evenings, and the food stalls with shrimp and traditional specialties.
