One of the oldest festivals in Friuli, for almost three centuries
The Quarte d'Avost (in Friulian, the fourth Sunday in August), also known as IV d'Avost, is one of the oldest and most iconic festivals in Friuli. In Povoletto, in the hilly Friuli region east of Udine, this celebration has its roots in a centuries-old tradition: with almost three hundred editions celebrated, it is a living heritage of the community, linked to the devotion to the Madonna della Cintura.
The program, put together each year by the Pro Loco Povoletto, features concerts and live music every evening, with big dance orchestras and tribute bands much loved by the public. Over the years, artists such as Caramel, the tribute to Zucchero 'Diavolo in Noi', Stefania Marchesi and Mamma Mia, the Shoreline, and the Absolute5 have performed, along with group dances. There are also exhibitions, such as the one dedicated to Oliviero Toscani, and a funfair for the little ones.
The convivial heart of the festival is the food and wine stand, which offers traditional Friulian dishes: homemade gnocchi with various sauces, grilled meats, skewers, frico, and the inevitable French fries, accompanied by local wines. Added to this is the charity raffle with gastronomic prizes, a true classic of Friulian village festivals.
The festival concludes in style with a fireworks display, which lights up the sky of Povoletto and seals an event that combines faith, culture, entertainment, and good food. The Quarte d'Avost is much more than a festival: it is the moment when a community preserves and renews, year after year, one of its oldest traditions.
In 2026, Povoletto will once again celebrate its oldest festival, the Quarte d'Avost, marking its 299th edition: a week at the end of August filled with music, Friulian gastronomy, a funfair, and fireworks.
The 2026 program, true to tradition, includes concerts and live music every evening with big orchestras and tribute bands, group dances, exhibitions, a funfair, a charity raffle with gastronomic prizes, rich food and wine stands with typical Friulian dishes, and the final fireworks display. The detailed schedule will be published by Pro Loco Povoletto in the coming weeks.
How to get there: Povoletto is located a few kilometers east of Udine, along the road towards Cividale and Tarcento, reachable by car.
