Dance that leaves the theatre

There is a summer in Udine when contemporary dance abandons the traditional stage to meet people: in squares, parks, and urban spaces of the city. This is the idea that animates AreaDanza Urban Dance Festival, a festival conceived and organised by Compagnia Arearea, a reference point for contemporary dance in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Part of the UdinEstate programme, the festival transforms everyday places into open-air stages.

Flying dancers, world premieres, and guests from all over Italy

The programme alternates highly spectacular performances – such as aerial dance with flying dancers – with world premieres, previews, and productions from the national scene. Alongside guest companies, young dancers from Arearea's Advanced Training course and the results of the artistic residencies of the Intersezioni network find space, in a mix that combines research, training, and dissemination. Each edition features different city locations, from suburban parks to historic city centre spaces.

A festival spread across Udine and Venzone

AreaDanza doesn't stop in Udine: the festival also extends its dates to Venzone, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, bringing contemporary dance within the medieval walls of the town. With affordable tickets and a programme designed to attract new audiences, AreaDanza is one of the most original proposals of the Friulian cultural summer.
