The Oktoberfest of the Mugello, featuring Bavarian pork knuckle and draft Munich beer
Some events, year after year, become part of a region's identity. The Sagginale Beer Festival is one of them: a celebration that every September draws hundreds of food lovers to the small village of Sagginale, in the municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo (Metropolitan City of Florence), all eager to indulge in Bavarian cuisine and draft beer. In the green landscape of the Mugello, just a few kilometers from the Tuscan capital, you can breathe the atmosphere of an authentic Oktoberfest with a Florentine twist for a few evenings.
The heart of the festival is, naturally, the table. The kitchen of A.S.D. Sagginale offers a menu that nods to German and Central European traditions:
Accompanying it all is the absolute star: Hofbräuhaus Traunstein beer, an unpasteurized Bavarian beer poured directly from the tank and served in generous mugs, just as the Munich tradition dictates.
Every evening, the festival is brought to life by live music, with orchestras and bands that get the crowd dancing under the large marquee. The environment is the convivial, popular setting of great village festivals, where families, groups of friends, and beer enthusiasts gather to spend time together. Among the highlights of the evenings is the Gildo Giovannini Memorial Trophy, a competition dedicated to the memory of a figure dear to the Sagginale community.
One of the festival's strengths is the large indoor structure set up at the sports field: the event takes place indoors and continues regardless of weather conditions, a significant detail for an early autumn event. Admission is free, making it one of the most beloved occasions to spend an evening in good company without breaking the bank.
Attending the Beer Festival is also an excellent excuse to explore the Mugello, the green valley north of Florence famous for its villages, Medici castles, local products, and Apennine landscapes. Borgo San Lorenzo, the main center of the valley, preserves a rich Art Nouveau heritage and a tradition of food festivals that animate the entire year, from spring to autumn.
The 2026 Sagginale Beer Festival is confirmed in the official calendar of events for Borgo San Lorenzo, scheduled from September 3rd to 13th at the village sports field. As per tradition, the kitchen offers the great Bavarian classics — oven-roasted pork knuckle, sausages, goulash, Wiener schnitzel, and dumplings — accompanied by unpasteurized Hofbräuhaus Traunstein beer poured from the tank. Every evening features live music and free admission, all within an indoor structure.
The detailed musical program and the schedule of the evenings are usually announced by A.S.D. Sagginale in the weeks leading up to the event, on the website www.sagginale.it and on the association's social media channels.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (schedule of musical evenings and guest bands) will be announced by A.S.D. Sagginale in the weeks preceding the event. Based on past editions, the usual structure of the festival includes:
