The patronal feast of the Sacred Heart parish community in Statte
In the heart of summer, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Statte, a town in the province of Taranto, Apulia, celebrates its most anticipated event. More than just a local fair, this is a parish feast deeply rooted in the life of the neighborhood surrounding Via delle Sorgenti. It is a time when the community gathers around its patron, the Sacred Heart, blending liturgical traditions with festive, popular celebrations.
The feast begins with a triduum of evening services. Each night around 7:00 PM, a different priest leads the Holy Mass, featuring special moments such as the blessing of children, the consecration of families to the Sacred Heart, and the blessing of households hosting the statue. This spiritual preparation is the heart of the event, bringing neighborhood families together in anticipation of the solemn Sunday.
The highlight is the final Sunday. Following morning and afternoon Masses, the evening features a procession with the statue of the Sacred Heart. Accompanied by a brass band, the procession winds through the town's main streets—including Via delle Sorgenti, Via Rolla, Via Cilea, Via Boccherini, and Corso Vittorio Emanuele—in a long, devout parade of the faithful.
After the procession, the community gathers under the evening lights for a musical performance in the town square, featuring live bands to close out the festivities. A distinctive trait of the Statte feast is its focus on solidarity: on Sunday morning, from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM, the parish hosts an AVIS blood drive, turning devotion into a concrete act of charity.
The Sacred Heart Feast is a cornerstone of summer in Statte, a small town in the Taranto area that became an independent municipality in 1993. The parish serves as a hub for generations to come together, enjoying religious rites, folk music, and the warmth of Apulian hospitality. Admission to all events is free.
