The evening road race through the rolling hills of Castellina Marittima, Pisa
Running in Castellina is one of the most beloved running events on the Tuscan coast, a tradition that has enlivened the village of Castellina Marittimaโa small hilltop town in the Province of Pisaโfor over two decades. Established in 2004, the race has become a classic on the regional calendar: an event that perfectly balances technical challenge with recreational fun, turning running into a celebration and a unique way to enjoy an early summer evening.
The event is organized by Polisportiva Castellina Marittima in collaboration with ASD Livorno Marathon, with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellina Marittima and under the aegis of the UISP. It serves as the Mauro Palmieri Trophy, named after a figure dear to the local running community, and is part of the Tuscan Running Circuit, which brings together the most popular road races in the region.
The heart of the day is the 9.8 km competitive race, a fast-paced course that winds through the roads and hills surrounding the town, starting and finishing at the Municipal Park, the event's nerve center where all services are located.
More than just a road race, Running in Castellina is a true community gathering: the evening start, the backdrop of the Municipal Park, and the food stalls at the finish line create the convivial atmosphere typical of Tuscan summer nights. The event regularly attracts hundreds of runners from across Tuscany, ranging from competitive athletes in the Tuscan Running Circuit to casual joggers opting for the shorter route.
Castellina Marittima, overlooking the gentle hills that slope down toward the coast between Cecina and Livorno, provides an ideal setting for an early summer race: a landscape of woodlands, olive groves, and open vistas, historically linked to the tradition of alabaster carving. The race is thus a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Pisan hinterland, far from the more crowded tourist destinations.
The 22nd edition of Running in Castellina took place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, organized by Polisportiva Castellina Marittima with ASD Livorno Marathon and the patronage of the Municipality, under the aegis of the UISP. The event was valid as the 9th Mauro Palmieri Trophy and was part of the Tuscan Running Circuit.
