The solidarity run and walk on the Matildic trails of Quattro Castella
RunBrusco is a non-competitive fun run and walk held in Quattro Castella, in the Province of Reggio Emilia, in the heart of the Matildic hills of Emilia-Romagna. Born in 2019 as "Eco Walk for Life," the run has become a regular fixture on the Reggiano sports and solidarity calendar, attracting hundreds of participants each year, including runners, walkers, and families.
The distinctive feature of RunBrusco is its solidarity aspect. The routes traverse the Matildic trails that climb the Reggiano hills, offering views of Matilda of Canossa's castles and the hilly landscape of the Apennines. The proceeds from registrations are donated to associations such as ADMO, AVIS, and AIDO, and to local public health projects, including the purchase of equipment for the Reggio Emilia hospital. Running or walking at RunBrusco therefore means concretely supporting organ, blood, and bone marrow donation.
The event is designed to welcome all types of participants:
Along the route, participants will find numerous refreshment points with tastings of local typical products, while the finish line in Piazza Dante is accompanied by festive moments and side events. Participation is free for children under 12, confirming the event's family-friendly and inclusive nature.
RunBrusco is organized by Atletica Reggio ASD in collaboration with Team Alpen Sport and with the patronage of the Municipality of Quattro Castella. The event enhances the connection between community, sport, and environment, promoting knowledge of the trails and the landscape heritage of the Matildic lands.
The 3rd RunBrusco is confirmed for Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Quattro Castella, Province of Reggio Emilia, based in Piazza Dante with an indicative time from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event, included in the official municipal calendar, will reprise the non-competitive fun run and walk formula, open to families, walkers, and runners.
As in previous editions, the proceeds from registrations will be allocated to solidarity purposes supporting organ, blood, and bone marrow donation, and local public health.
The detailed program, including routes, staggered start times for different distances, and registration fees, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 3rd RunBrusco 2026 will be published by the organizers closer to the event. Based on previous editions, the event typically includes multiple routes of varying distances (from a short course for families to longer ones on the hilly trails), with staggered starts in the morning from Piazza Dante and refreshment stops along the way featuring local typical products. Details on distances, times, and registration will be communicated in the weeks leading up to June 14, 2026.
Quattro Castella is located a few kilometers from Reggio Emilia, along the first hills of the Reggiano Apennines. By car, it can be reached from the Reggio Emilia exit of the A1 motorway, continuing southwest towards the hills. The start and finish are in Piazza Dante, in the town center.
Registration can be done online through the organizers' website or on the day of the event. The fee generally includes a t-shirt, a race pack, access to refreshment points, and side events. Participation is free for children under 12 years old.
Appropriate clothing and footwear for running on hilly trails are recommended. As it is a non-competitive event, everyone can choose the pace and route that suits them best.
