About Run for

The Run for is a major running event that transforms the streets of Foggia into a grand stage for sport every May. Organized by ASD Foggia Running, it features a 10 km competitive FIDAL-certified race, the non-competitive Run for TEN, and the 5 km inclusive Run for FUN walk open to everyone. Every year, the event draws thousands of athletes from across Italy to the heart of the Capitanata region, with the start and finish lines set between the Villa Comunale and the city's main thoroughfares.

The race that gets Foggia moving

The Run for is one of the most popular running events in the Capitanata area and a highly anticipated highlight of the spring sports calendar in Foggia, the capital of its namesake province in Puglia. Every year, on a Sunday in May, thousands of runners, competitive athletes, walkers, and families peacefully take over the city center for a celebration of sport that goes far beyond simple competition.

Three races in one day

The event, organized by ASD Foggia Running, offers multiple formats to welcome everyone, from professionals to weekend enthusiasts:

  • The 10 km competitive race: A national FIDAL road race on a certified course that has hosted provincial, regional, and even Italian Master Championship titles over the years.
  • Run for TEN: A non-competitive 10 km run on the same course as the official race, perfect for those who want to challenge themselves without the pressure of a stopwatch.
  • Run for FUN: A 5 km recreational walk focused on inclusion and legality, open to everyone, even those who have never run a race before.

A course in the heart of the city

The technical and fast course winds entirely through the urban fabric of Foggia, passing by the Villa Comunale, Viale Fortore, Viale Ofanto, Viale Europa, Viale Primo Maggio, and numerous other major city arteries. It is a city loop of curves and straights that closes streets and squares to traffic, returning them, at least for a morning, to runners and citizens.

Sport, values, and solidarity

The Run for is more than just a race. The event has always championed a strong message of inclusion, legality, and solidarity: the Run for FUN walk is linked to local charitable projects, while the participation of the Army units stationed in Foggia, including soldiers from the Pinerolo Brigade, adds a touch of pageantry with the flag-raising ceremony that opens the day. For the Municipality of Foggia and the Puglian community, the Run for represents a moment of gathering and civic pride, as well as a tourism and economic driver for the region.

A key event for Puglian running

Having grown with each edition, the Run for has carved out a prominent place in the Southern Italian athletics scene, attracting dozens of sports clubs and hundreds of athletes from every region of Italy to Foggia. It is an event that combines high-level competition with popular participation, confirming Puglia as an increasingly welcoming land for road running.

Run for โ€” edition 2026

The fourth edition of the Run for took place in Foggia on Sunday, May 10, 2026, with over 1,600 registered participants, including 450 women and 95 competitive teams from all over Italy. The 10 km competitive race awarded the FIDAL provincial road running title, alongside the non-competitive Run for TEN and the 5 km Run for FUN walk.

Run for 2026: The 4th edition

On Sunday, May 10, 2026, Foggia hosted the fourth edition of the Run for, confirming its status as one of the premier running events in the Capitanata. The day opened at 8:30 AM with a flag-raising ceremony performed by soldiers of the Pinerolo Brigade inside the Villa Comunale, followed by the official start at 9:00 AM on Via Galliani.

The 10 km competitive race, serving as the FIDAL Master Provincial Road Running Championship, was held on a bronze-level certified course, characterized by seventeen curves and eleven straights that passed through Viale Fortore, Viale Ofanto, Viale Europa, Viale Primo Maggio, and numerous other city streets. Alongside the official race, the Run for TEN (10 km non-competitive) and the Run for FUN, a 5 km walk dedicated to inclusion and legality, also took place.

Runners from the two Foggia-based regiments of the Pinerolo Brigade, the 11th Engineer Regiment and the 21st Artillery Regiment, also took part in the event, representing the largest team at the start of the non-competitive race.
