A summer evening of music, art, and flavors in the medieval village of the upper Asti Langa
Every summer, Mombaldone—a small stone jewel nestled between the upper Asti Langa and the Monferrato—takes part in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, a national initiative inviting over two hundred villages to celebrate love, culture, and the beauty of historic centers in a single night. While the national event traditionally takes place on the night of the summer solstice, the Municipality of Mombaldone has for years chosen its own date in early August to avoid overlapping with neighboring town events and to offer visitors an evening entirely dedicated to its village.
Mombaldone, in the province of Asti, is the only village in the Bormida Valley to have preserved its medieval fortified layout intact, enclosed by walls and dominated by castle ruins. During the Romantic Night, the cobblestone streets, small squares, and Piazza Umberto I, the heart of the town, come alive with live music, soft lighting, and an atmosphere of yesteryear. The evening is designed as a journey through art and sentiment across the charms of the medieval village: visitors can stroll from corner to corner, surprised by concerts, exhibitions, and culinary offerings.
The Romantic Night in Mombaldone is the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most authentic villages in Piedmont in a setting that is both festive and intimate. Far from the crowds of large events, the love for the town can be felt here in the care of the arrangements, the hospitality of the volunteers, and the dialogue between historical heritage, contemporary art, and traditional cuisine. An evening that combines romance, exploration, and good food, while respecting the identity of this corner of the Asti province.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in Mombaldone is scheduled for August 1st, a date chosen by the Municipality each year to avoid overlapping with the national solstice event and neighboring village celebrations.
As per tradition, the medieval village transforms into a journey through music, art, and flavors: live concerts in the historic center, an art exhibition in the spaces of the Enrico Bonino Library, a craft market, and numerous food stalls managed by local restaurants, the Pro Loco, and local clubs. The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, exhibitors, and guests, is published in the official flyer on the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy website.

We recommend checking the official 2026 flyer for updated times and the complete list of events.
Mombaldone is located in the upper Bormida Valley, in the province of Asti, on the border with Liguria and the province of Alessandria. By car, it is reached via the SS30 of the Bormida Valley; the historic village is pedestrian-only, so it is recommended to park in the areas just outside the center. The nearest train station is on the Acqui Terme–Savona line.
The event takes place in the evening, in early August. For the 2026 edition, the announced date is August 1st.
Wear comfortable shoes for the village's cobblestone streets, and allow enough time to leisurely enjoy the music, exhibitions, and tastings while strolling. Culinary offerings can be purchased at the distribution points scattered throughout the town.
