The most romantic night of the year in the most beautiful village in Italy, nestled in the Madonie mountains
Every year, around the summer solstice, over two hundred Italian villages light up for the Romantic Night, an initiative promoted by the national association The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. Among them is Gangi, a jewel perched on Mount Marone in the province of Palermo, in the heart of the Madonie Park. Awarded the title of "Village of Villages" in 2014, Gangi provides the perfect backdrop for an evening that transforms squares, alleys, and historic palaces into places dedicated to love, memory, and the beauty of Italy's lesser-known gems.
With its houses climbing in a spiral along the mountainside, Gangi offers a unique setting: stone houses, staircases, glimpses of the Madonie peaks, and, on clear nights, a starry sky that serves as the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening. The event aims to promote a model of sustainable and slow tourism, rooted in the authentic identity of the territory and the rediscovery of historic centers off the beaten path.
The Romantic Night brings the historic center to life from sunset until late at night, with a program curated each year by the municipal administration and local associations. Regular features of the Gangi editions include:
The Romantic Night was born as a tribute to lovers, but it is also an invitation to experience Gangi in a different light, far from day-trip tourism. It is the perfect opportunity to stroll through illuminated alleys, enjoy the cool mountain evening air, and breathe in the atmosphere of a community celebrating its traditions and heritage, as part of an event shared by the entire network of Italy's most beautiful villages.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in Gangi was held on Saturday, June 20th, with its hub in Piazza del Popolo. The national theme chosen by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy was "Love for the villages, our memories, and the heritage that unites us".
The evening combined comedy and music in the heart of the Madonie village, in the province of Palermo, confirming the successful formula that brings the historic center to life from sunset until late at night.
Events take place in the historic center of Gangi (PA), with the main hub in Piazza del Popolo. Other venues involved in various editions include Palazzo Bongiorno and the village's small squares.
By car: Gangi can be reached via the SS120 Etna and Madonie road; it is about a 1 hour and 45-minute drive from Palermo (approx. 120 km). By train: the most convenient stations are Cefalรน or Termini Imerese, followed by a bus or car transfer. The nearest airport is Palermo Falcone-Borsellino.
The Romantic Night is held around the summer solstice (the third Saturday of June). In Gangi, the 2026 edition took place on Saturday, June 20th.
Access to events in the squares is free. Comfortable footwear is recommended for the village's steep, stone-paved alleys.
