A night of love among the stone alleys of Casale Marittimo, on the Etruscan Coast
The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is one of the most anticipated national events promoted by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. Established in 2015, it transforms hundreds of small historic centers into timeless settings where the beauty of alleys and squares meets romance. For the eleventh edition, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, the chosen theme is "Love for Memories," an invitation to rediscover roots, traditions, and memories that unite different generations.
Among the participating villages is Casale Marittimo, a stunning town in the Province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany and the Etruscan Coast. Awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club, the village is laid out in concentric rings of honey-colored stone houses around narrow alleys that climb toward the main square, offering a panorama that sweeps across the Val di Cecina to the sea and the Tuscan Archipelago, just a few kilometers from the coast.
Strolling through Casale Marittimo during the Romantic Night means crossing centuries of history. The historic center, once enclosed by double walls, preserves Palazzo Rocca, the church of Sant'Andrea, and the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Nearby, the Etruscan necropolis of Casa Nocera yielded the famous Warrior Princes of Casale Marittimo, among the oldest free-standing sculptures in European art. It is in this intimate and evocative setting that the village dresses up for its most romantic night.
The Romantic Night is not just Italian: associations of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, Spain, Wallonia (Belgium), and Bosnia and Herzegovina also organize similar initiatives on the same occasion, making this evening an international event dedicated to enhancing the identity and heritage of these territories.
In Casale Marittimo, the event is part of the broader Casale Marittimo Summer Festival program, which enlivens the village throughout the summer season.
For the 2026 Romantic Night, Casale Marittimo celebrates the national theme "Love for Memories" with an evening spread across the village's squares and alleys, part of the Casale Marittimo Summer Festival program. It begins in the late afternoon with a screening dedicated to the town's history, followed by a romantic sunset stroll and music in Piazza del Popolo, leading up to the evening classical music concert on the panoramic terrace and the finale at midnight on the "kissing bench."
Throughout the evening, local businesses offer themed decorations and offerings to immerse visitors in the village atmosphere.
Casale Marittimo is located in the Province of Pisa, in the hinterland of the Etruscan Coast. By car, it can be reached via the SS1 Aurelia (Cecina or Casale Marittimo exit), about 12 km from the sea. The most convenient train station is Cecina, on the Tyrrhenian line, from where you can continue by car or bus.
Saturday, June 20, 2026, from late afternoon until midnight and beyond.
Access to the event and the village areas is free. It is recommended to arrive early to find parking in the areas outside the historic center, which is pedestrianized.
Wear comfortable shoes for the village's cobbled slopes and bring a light jacket for the evening. Local businesses offer themed menus and tastings: a perfect opportunity to dine in the heart of the town.
