The Romagna Shallot Fair IGP is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the summer in the municipality of Riolo Terme, in the province of Ravenna. For two weekends in July, Parco Sandro Pertini becomes the heart of the event, with food stalls, markets, local producers, and evenings of live music. The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Riolo Terme, attracts thousands of visitors from all over Romagna and beyond every year.
The Romagna Shallot IGP
The absolute star of the fair is the Romagna Shallot IGP, an allium vegetable that obtained the Protected Geographical Indication recognition in 1997. Typical of the province of Ravenna and particularly of the fertile hills of the Senio Valley, it is distinguished by its characteristic purplish-white color and its unmistakable flask shape. Its delicate and aromatic flavor, finer than that of common onion, makes it a precious ingredient in traditional Romagna cuisine.
What to eat
The food stall managed by the Pro Loco offers a rich themed menu, where the shallot is featured in numerous local recipes. Among the most requested dishes:
- Tagliolini with shallot, fresh handmade egg pasta;
- Polenta with shallot ragù, a hearty peasant dish;
- Shallot frittata, simple and tasty;
- Romagna specialties accompanied by products from local producers.
Along the stalls, there are also shallot producers, offering the fresh product, preserved, and processed, as well as other local excellences.
Music, markets, and atmosphere
In addition to the gastronomic part, the fair offers musical evenings, shows, DJ sets, and entertainment for all ages, in a festive atmosphere that enlivens the park until the evening. Craft markets and exhibitors complete the offering, making the event a true village festival that combines taste, tradition, and sociality.
The Shallot Fair is a perfect opportunity to discover Riolo Terme, a spa town nestled in the Romagna hills, and to get to know an iconic product of Emilia-Romagna up close.
Romagna Shallot Fair — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Romagna Shallot Fair IGP will be held in Riolo Terme over two weekends in July: Saturday 18 and Sunday 19, and Saturday 25 and Sunday 26, 2026. The event takes place as usual at Parco Sandro Pertini, with free admission.
For 2026, the Pro Loco's food stall with its rich shallot-based menu, the presence of Romagna Shallot IGP producers, markets, and evenings of music and entertainment are expected. The detailed program, including musical events and times, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Riolo Terme in the weeks preceding the event.
Programme Romagna Shallot Fair 2026
The official calendar of the Pro Loco of Riolo Terme confirms the dates for the 2026 edition: Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, and Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, at Parco Pertini.
The detailed program of the evenings (shows, concerts, DJ sets) and the opening hours of the stalls will be published by the Pro Loco in the weeks before the event. Based on past editions, musical evenings are expected on Saturday and Sunday evenings, with the food stall opening on Saturday from late afternoon and on Sunday from lunchtime.

How to get there
Riolo Terme is located in the Senio Valley, in the province of Ravenna, about fifty kilometers from the regional capital. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (Imola or Faenza exit) following signs for the Senio Valley. The nearest train station is Faenza, from which you can continue with bus connections.

Admission
Admission to the fair is free. Food stalls open on Saturdays from the evening and on Sundays from lunch.
