The great summer programme of the Municipality of Budrio, featuring music, theatre, cinema, and gastronomy
BudriOnFest is the great summer programme of the Municipality of Budrio, a centre in the plains of the metropolitan city of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna. From early June until the end of September, the capital and its hamlets — Mezzolara, Vedrana, Maddalena di Cazzano, Bagnarola, Prunaro, Dugliolo — transform into a widespread stage that blends music, performance, culture, sport, and conviviality.
The festival originates from a shared effort between the municipal administration, the Pro Loco "Lo Dolce Piano", the numerous local associations, volunteers, and cultural and commercial entities. For the first time, the summer programme is curated jointly, networking energies and skills: BudriOnFest is not just a festival, but the symbol of a lively and engaged community.
Budrio is world-famous as the city of the ocarina, the terracotta instrument invented here in the mid-nineteenth century. It is no coincidence that Budrio's summer programme gives ample space to local music schools and ocarina groups, with visits to the Ocarina Museum and performances in the municipality's historic villas. BudriOnFest thus enhances not only the events but also the public spaces, historic residences, and the human heritage of the Budrio community.
The 2026 edition, presented by Mayor Debora Badiali and Pro Loco President Pierfranco Delmastro, offers a very rich and widespread calendar from June to September.
In June, the Music Festival stands out, with concerts by the Banda di Budrio (Banda Larga XL project, part of Bologna Estate 2026), choirs, music schools, and ocarina groups, as well as dance performances, workshops, and puppet shows at the Museo della Casina del '400. Straddling June and July, the Orchestra Senzaspine series begins at Villa Rusconi in Mezzolara, with concerts dedicated to Mozart and Rossini in collaboration with the Imola Academy.
The summer continues with jam sessions, village festivals, food and wine evenings, open-air cinema, book presentations, and visits to the civic museums. In September, the programme concludes with the Late Summer Festival in Piazza Antonio da Budrio (jazz, classical, and singer-songwriter music) and the traditional Mezzolara Onion Fair (September 18-20 and 25-28).
BudriOnFest events take place in various locations within the Municipality of Budrio (province of Bologna) and its hamlets: the historic centre, Piazza Antonio da Budrio, Piazza 8 Marzo, Piazzale della Gioventù, Villa Rusconi and Palamezzolara in Mezzolara, Palazzo Montefano in Vedrana, Villa Ranuzzi Cospi in Bagnarola.
Budrio is located about 20 km north-east of Bologna. By car, it can be reached from the SP5 San Vitale; by train, Budrio station is served by the Bologna–Portomaggiore railway (metropolitan service).
Most events are free admission. Some concerts are ticketed: the Orchestra Senzaspine series costs €10, with a €8 reduced price for under-30s (season ticket for 3 concerts €25, reduced €18); the late summer festival in September has tickets at €10, reduced €5. Mandatory booking is required for some guided tours.
