A food and wine journey through grain, oil, and farming traditions in Rodì Milici
In the heart of the province of Messina, resting on the slopes of the Peloritani Mountains just a few kilometers from the Tyrrhenian coast, the village of Rodì Milici preserves a long agricultural tradition of grain, extra virgin olive oil, citrus fruits, and the famous Mamertino wine, already praised by Pliny the Elder as one of the most noble wines of antiquity. The "Rodì Milici Ancient Land of Grain and Oil" event was created to showcase this heritage, transforming the town center into a journey through taste and peasant memory.
The event takes place along Viale Martino, the village's main artery, which comes alive for the occasion with stalls, displays, and aromas. Visitors can stroll through:
The most iconic moment is the re-enactment titled "The thresher returns to life in Rodì Milici": a demonstration of traditional threshing using an antique threshing machine, bringing back the movements and rhythms of field work from days gone by. It is an opportunity for families and younger generations to rediscover the work of their grandparents, the effort, and the wisdom behind bread and grain, in an authentic and engaging atmosphere.
Rodì Milici is a town with an ancient history: the territory preserves traces of the city of Longane and the Hellenistic era, as well as the Grand Priory of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem in Milici. Experiencing this festival also means immersing oneself in a picturesque hilly landscape, among olive groves and vineyards, in an authentic corner of northeastern Sicily still untouched by mass tourism. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Rodì Milici as part of the calendar of events that brings the village to life during the summer months.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Viale Martino in Rodì Milici transforms into a food and wine trail starting at 5:00 PM. The program includes stalls with local products, tastings, and regional specialties, a cooking show with "il Pastaio Matto" dedicated to pasta and local cuisine, and the re-enactment "The thresher returns to life in Rodì Milici", featuring a traditional threshing demonstration using an antique machine. An opportunity to rediscover the work of our grandparents and celebrate the village's peasant identity, among grain, oil, and the authentic flavors of the province of Messina.
Rodì Milici is located in the province of Messina, about 35 km west of the provincial capital. By car, it can be reached via the SS 113 and the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (exits near Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto or Milazzo). The reference railway station is on the Tyrrhenian coast, from which you can continue inland.
The event takes place along Viale Martino, in the town center, starting in the afternoon (from 5:00 PM). Admission to the stalls and demonstration areas is free; some tastings may require a small contribution at individual exhibitors.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing for walking along the avenue and taking the opportunity to visit the village and purchase olive oil and local products directly from local producers.
