The festival of new wine and chestnuts in Piazza San Papino
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Martino Fest is one of the most cherished autumn events in Milazzo, a city on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Messina, Sicily. Every year, around the feast of Saint Martin, the central Piazza San Papino transforms into a vibrant festival hub in front of the Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso, featuring food stalls, music, and widespread community participation.
True to the traditions associated with Saint Martin, new wine and roasted chestnuts are the undisputed stars of the day. Food stalls also offer sausage sandwiches, French fries, Sicilian cannoli, and other local specialties, creating an atmosphere of joy and conviviality that draws visitors from across the Milazzo area.
Alongside the food and wine, the San Martino Fest program features live music with local artists and bands, performances, craft and hobby stalls, and activities dedicated to children. In recent years, the festival has also included a football tournament, the San Martino Cup, with team presentations on the main stage.
San Martino Fest is more than just fun: the event, organized by the San Martino Fest Cultural Association together with the SS. Crocifisso Parish, has a strong commitment to charity. Proceeds from the festival and the raffle are donated to scholarships, educational materials for school inclusion, and support for families in need within the local area.
The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Milazzo, the Metropolitan City of Messina, and the Regional Department of Tourism, Sport, and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region, confirming the festival's deep roots in the cultural and social life of the local community.
The San Martino Fest returns to Milazzo, in Piazza San Papino, for the customary autumn festival dedicated to new wine and chestnuts. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the San Martino Fest Cultural Association. Based on previous editions, the event usually takes place in early November, around the feast of Saint Martin, featuring food stalls, live music, crafts, and charitable initiatives for the local community.
The San Martino Fest takes place in Piazza San Papino, in the center of Milazzo (ME), in front of the Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso.
By car: take the Milazzo exit on the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, then follow signs for the city center. By train: Milazzo station, connected to the Tyrrhenian line, is just a few minutes from the city center.
Access to the festival is free; food and drinks can be purchased directly at the stalls.
