Tasting Canavese wines in the medieval Ricetto of Oglianico
Ricetto di Vino is a festival dedicated to the wines of the Canavese region, held in Oglianico, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. The event, organized by the Associazione Canavèis in collaboration with local wineries, invites visitors to stroll with a glass in hand through the alleys and courtyards of the medieval Ricetto, one of the best-preserved fortified villages in the area. Here, amidst stone walls and corners steeped in history, you can discover the wines that define the identity of this corner of Piedmont.
The Canavese is an ancient and surprising wine-growing land, capable of producing labels with great character just a few kilometers from Turin. During Ricetto di Vino, the public can taste the best of local production, including:
To accompany the tasting, producers share stories about their wineries and vineyards directly with the public, creating a direct dialogue between the winemakers and those who enjoy their craft.
The charm of Ricetto di Vino also lies in its setting. The Ricetto of Oglianico is a fortified village that transports you back to the Middle Ages, and during the event, it is possible to join guided tours of the Chapel of Sant'Evasio, a hidden gem of the town. The festival is part of the Idi di Maggio program, the famous historical re-enactment that brings Oglianico back to the 14th century every spring with costumes, flags, games, and taverns. Wine thus becomes part of a broader narrative, woven with local traditions, folklore, and the memory of the Canavese territory.
Since its inception, the festival has quickly established itself as one of the most anticipated events of the Canavese wine spring, thanks to its informal yet high-quality format: free entry to the village and tastings available with the purchase of a practical glass-holder pouch. It is the perfect opportunity to discover lesser-known but highly distinctive wines in good company and a setting that combines taste and beauty.
The third edition was held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the medieval Ricetto of Oglianico. The event, organized by the Associazione Canavèis together with local wineries, concluded the first weekend of the 44th edition of the Idi di Maggio, enlivened by beautiful sunshine and a great turnout.
The stars were the wines of the Canavese, from Erbaluce to Nebbiolo-based reds, available for tasting within the walls of the fortified village. From 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, guided tours of the Chapel of Sant'Evasio were offered. Free entry to the Ricetto, with tastings available by purchasing the glass-holder pouch for 8 euros.
The event took place as part of the first weekend of the Idi di Maggio (May 1-3, 2026), featuring markets, flag-throwing tournaments, and costumed entertainment in the village.
Oglianico is located in the Upper Canavese, about 35 km from Turin. By car, it can be reached via the SP460 del Gran Paradiso; the nearest train station is in Rivarolo Canavese, on the Turin-Pont Canavese line (Ferrovia Canavesana / GTT).
Entry to the Ricetto is free. To taste the wines, you must purchase a glass-holder pouch (pouch + glass) at the ticket office for 8 euros. In case of bad weather, the event will be held indoors.
The event takes place in the afternoon: arrive in good time to enjoy the guided tours of the Chapel of Sant'Evasio and the atmosphere of the village. As this is a wine tasting event, we recommend planning your return trip in advance.
