An evening of wine, taste, and culture in the Baroque Piazza Castello of Agliè
Calici – Taste is Culture is one of the most beloved events in the Canavese region, in the heart of Piedmont. Every summer, the evocative Piazza Castello in Agliè, dominated by the Baroque bulk of the famous Ducal Castle, comes alive for an evening entirely dedicated to wine, fine food, and local culture. The event, organized by the municipal administration of Agliè in collaboration with the Pro Loco and local volunteers, has become an unmissable appointment for enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.
The absolute protagonists are the local wineries and the producers of the Terre di Erbaluce, who offer the great wines of Canavese: Caluso Erbaluce DOCG, Carema, the reds of Canavese, as well as vermouth and local extra virgin olive oil. Alongside the tasting stands, the Maestri del Gusto of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, Slow Food producers, food artisans, and chefs create a culinary journey that highlights the agri-food excellence of the province.
Calici is not just about food and wine: the evening is punctuated by live music, vintage DJ sets, entertainment, and street performances that move through the square. Past editions have featured street bands, stilt walkers, light and sound performances, and themed musical selections, creating that festive and convivial atmosphere that is the hallmark of the event.
The festival is an integral part of the Festival of Reciprocity of the Three Canavese Lands, a project that unites the municipalities of Agliè, Castellamonte, and San Giorgio Canavese in a shared calendar of cultural and gastronomic events throughout the year. The artistic direction is curated by Daniele Lucca of Wine Voice – Radio & Podcast. In over ten years of history, Calici has become a true community event, capable of attracting thousands of visitors from all over Piedmont and neighboring regions.
The setting is Agliè, a village in the Canavese area of Piedmont famous for its Ducal Castle, a Savoy residence declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Participating in Calici means combining the pleasure of the table with the discovery of one of the most fascinating places in the Metropolitan City of Turin.
Agliè is located in the Canavese region, about 40 km north of Turin. By car, take the A5 Turin–Aosta motorway and exit at San Giorgio Canavese or Scarmagno; by train, the reference station is Rivarolo Canavese, on the Canavesana Railway line (GTT), with a connection by bus.
The event takes place in the evening in Piazza Castello, in the historic center of Agliè, generally from 7:30 PM until late at night.
In previous editions, entry to the tasting area required a fee (approximately 8 euros per person, including a wine glass and a glass holder pouch); admission was free for children. It is recommended to check updated methods and prices on the official channels of the Municipality of Agliè and the event's Facebook page.
