About Regie Armonie

Regie Armonie along the Via Francigena is a free-admission classical music festival winding through the Susa Valley, spanning Avigliana, Villardora, Sant'Ambrogio, Buttigliera Alta, Chiusa di San Michele, and Susa. Organized by the Associazione Itinerari in Musica, it features organ, vocal, and early music performances in historic churches and sanctuaries along the ancient Via Francigena pilgrimage route in the province of Turin.

A festival that makes the churches of the Susa Valley sing

Regie Armonie along the Via Francigena is one of the most evocative musical events in the Turin area: a series of free concerts that, every year between May and June, takes the audience on a sonic journey along the ancient Via Francigena route in the heart of the Susa Valley. Curated by the Associazione Itinerari in Musica, the event transforms churches, sanctuaries, and cathedrals into natural concert halls, where the acoustics of the naves and the beauty of the frescoes engage in a dialogue with live music.

Where it takes place

The common thread is the ancient pilgrims' way, which for centuries connected Northern Europe to Rome by crossing the Susa Valley. The stops include some of the most important artistic sites in the valley, located in the town of Avigliana and neighboring municipalities in the province of Turin, Piedmont: the Santuario Madonna dei Laghi in Avigliana, the Church of Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio in Villardora, the Church of San Giovanni Vincenzo in Sant'Ambrogio, the Precettoria di Sant'Antonio di Ranverso in Buttigliera Alta, the Church of San Pietro Apostolo in Chiusa di San Michele, and the Cathedral of San Giusto in Susa.

Music as the protagonist

The program favors sacred and Baroque repertoires: organ, voice, violin, transverse flute, and early instruments alternate evening after evening, often accompanied by choirs and specialized ensembles. From Bach to Purcell, Handel to Rossini, and even Mozart and Lefébure-Wély, each concert is designed to showcase the historic instrument of the host church, especially the organs, which are a true musical heritage of the valley.

A project to promote the territory

Beyond the music, Regie Armonie is an invitation to rediscover the historical, artistic, and cultural heritage of the Susa Valley. Several stops are preceded by guided tours of the venues hosting the concerts, making the experience truly multisensory. The festival is supported by the Regional Council of Piedmont, the Unione Montana Valle Susa, and the involved municipal administrations, with the collaboration of organizations such as the Organalia association, the Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano, and local Rotary Clubs.

  • Period: between May and June
  • Admission: free and open to all concerts
  • Venues: churches, sanctuaries, and cathedrals of the Susa Valley
