About Regalmente Rosa

Throughout the month of May, the Royal Castle of Govone—a UNESCO World Heritage Savoy residence nestled in the Roero hills—blooms with Regalmente Rosa. The festival celebrates the flowering of the antique roses beloved by King Charles Felix of Savoy, featuring guided tours of the historic rose garden, Sunday concerts from the Govone Smart Music series in the Ballroom, contemporary art exhibitions, historical re-enactments, and family activities. A spring event that blends nature, history, and culture in the heart of the Cuneo province.

Regalmente Rosa, the spring awakening at the Royal Castle of Govone

Every year, as May arrives, the Royal Castle of Govone opens its halls and gardens for Regalmente Rosa, a festival dedicated to spring and the charm of historic gardens. Established in 2003 and grown into a beloved monthly tradition, the event centers on the blooming of the antique roses that once enchanted King Charles Felix of Savoy and his wife, Maria Cristina, a passionate botanist.

A Savoy residence in the heart of Roero

The castle stands in the town of Govone, in the province of Cuneo, amidst the Roero hills in Piedmont. Once a noble palace and later a royal residence, it was the sovereign's preferred retreat for rest and tranquility during his summer vacations. Today, it is part of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy circuit, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and is open for visits every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The King Charles Felix Rose Garden

The botanical heart of the festival is the King Charles Felix Rose Garden, where antique roses return to bloom each spring. Every Sunday in May, expert guides lead visitors through the rose garden and historic grounds, sharing stories of the cultivated species and the passion that once animated the Savoy court.

Music, art, and tradition

Regalmente Rosa is more than just nature. The Sundays of the month host concerts from the Govone Smart Music series in the evocative Ballroom, alongside contemporary art exhibitions, historical re-enactments curated by local associations, and activities designed for children, such as themed treasure hunts and reading sessions.

Why visit

  • Guided tours of the historic rose garden among blooming antique roses
  • Free concerts in the castle's Ballroom
  • Contemporary art exhibitions in the royal rooms
