About Palazzolo Living Nativity

In the Palazzolo district, a hamlet of Belpasso at the foot of Mount Etna, the Corpus Domini Parish hosts one of the most evocative living nativity scenes in the Catania area every year. Set across 4,000 square meters of natural landscape, over a hundred actors in period costumes bring an entire village to life: artisan workshops, ancient trades, tastings of traditional Sicilian products, and a Christmas market guide visitors along the path to the Nativity stable. The grand Epiphany procession of the Three Wise Men, featuring flag-wavers and bagpipers, is the highlight of the event.

A village reborn in the heart of the Etna winter

Every year, during the Christmas season, the Palazzolo district—a hamlet in the municipality of Belpasso, bordering Paternò in the province of Catania—transforms into an authentic village from days gone by. The Palazzolo Living Nativity, organized by volunteers from the Corpus Domini Parish, is one of the most cherished Christmas traditions in the Etna region: an open-air trail winding through 4,000 square meters of natural landscape right next to the parish church.

A hundred actors and ancient trades

Along the path, over one hundred actors in period costumes faithfully recreate the life of a small village, complete with artisan workshops. Visitors walk among blacksmiths, carpenters, spinners, bakers, and farmers, discovering the techniques of ancient crafts before reaching the Nativity stable that marks the end of the journey. The natural scenery, filled with the glow of fires and the scents of fresh bread and wine, creates an intimate and authentic atmosphere, far removed from artificial reconstructions.

Sicilian flavors and a Christmas market

An essential part of the visit is the tasting of local products: chickpeas, jams, ricotta, bread, focaccia, dried fruit, and wine, all prepared according to traditional recipes. A Christmas market featuring handmade crafts, sweets, Sicilian preserves, and olive oil produced by the parish completes the experience, fostering a festive community spirit that involves the entire town of Belpasso.

The Procession of the Three Wise Men

The most spectacular moment arrives on Epiphany, with the grand procession of the Three Wise Men accompanied by flag-wavers and the festive melodies of traditional bagpipers. In past editions, King Herod's court has been brought to life by flag-waving performances and dancers, while Santa Claus and the Befana have greeted children with small gifts. This free, family-friendly event has become a staple of the Christmas season in Belpasso and throughout the Etna foothills.

Palazzolo Living Nativity — edition 2026

The Corpus Domini Parish traditionally hosts the Palazzolo Living Nativity during the Christmas holidays, between late December and Epiphany. Official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced; typically, the nativity scene opens on December 26th and remains open through the days surrounding Epiphany, with the Three Wise Men procession on January 6th. We recommend checking the official parish channels for updates.

Dates and the program for the 2026 edition of the Palazzolo Living Nativity have not yet been published. Based on previous years, the event is held in the Palazzolo district of Belpasso (CT) during the Christmas period, with a traditional opening on December 26th and additional dates near Epiphany. Organized by volunteers from the Corpus Domini Parish, the event features the usual trail through artisan workshops animated by over a hundred actors, tastings of typical Sicilian products, a Christmas market, and the January 6th procession of the Three Wise Men with flag-wavers and bagpipers. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers closer to the holidays.
