Carnival in the heart of the Baroque city, featuring music, costumes, and street parties
The Ragusa Carnival brings color, music, and joy to the historic center of the Iblean capital. Unlike the large-scale carnivals featuring allegorical floats found elsewhere in Sicily, the capital's Carnival has a modern, urban soul: street parties, DJ sets, masquerades, and social gatherings spread throughout the heart of the city, between Ragusa Superiore and the evocative district of Ibla.
The most anticipated moment is the "Hit Parade in Maschera" party (also known as the Hit Parade Showcase), held in Piazza San Giovanni, in front of the Cathedral, the beating heart of the city's nightlife. With the slogan "all the hits in costume," the evening takes the audience on a musical journey through the successes that defined the 2000-2020 period, spanning pop, dance, and revival. The square transforms into a true open-air disco, animated by the DJ sets of Saimongi and Marco Vitale, with costumes and festive vibes lasting until late at night.
The initiative, promoted in collaboration between the Municipality of Ragusa, the Libero Consorzio Comunale, and the "I Tre Ponti" Natural Shopping Center, stems from the commitment of local youth eager to promote leisure and community gatherings in the historic center.
The capital's Carnival is part of a broader regional project: in 2026, the Libero Consorzio Comunale of Ragusa and the provincial municipalities signed a three-year agreement (2026-2028) to integrally promote carnival festivities across the Iblean district, with the goal of building a unified "Iblean Carnival" calendar and strengthening the area's tourism appeal.
Experiencing Carnival in Ragusa means discovering a UNESCO World Heritage city for its Baroque architecture, strolling through the alleys and staircases that connect the upper city to Ibla, and getting swept up in the festivities in the squares. It is an opportunity to combine Sicilian carnival tradition with the charm of the Iblean Baroque, in the heart of the province of Ragusa, in Sicily.
The 2026 Ragusa Carnival brought the party to the historic center of the Iblean capital. The highlight event was the "Hit Parade in Maschera" party, scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026, starting at 10:30 PM in Piazza San Giovanni. With the slogan "all the hits in costume," the evening offered a musical journey through the hits of 2000-2020, with DJ sets by Saimongi and Marco Vitale that kept the square dancing until late at night amidst masks and costumes.
The initiative was promoted by the Municipality of Ragusa together with the Libero Consorzio Comunale and the "I Tre Ponti" Natural Shopping Center. The 2026 edition was part of the new three-year agreement for the "Iblean Carnival" signed between the Libero Consorzio and the province's municipalities. The festivities concluded on Shrove Tuesday, February 17.
The main events take place in the historic center of Ragusa (RG), specifically in Piazza San Giovanni, in front of the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista.
By car: take the motorway/SS towards Ragusa; there is ample parking near the center. By plane: Comiso Airport (CIY) is about 15 km away, or alternatively Catania-Fontanarossa. By train: Ragusa station is a short distance from the center.
Events in the square are generally free to access. For the updated program, please consult the Municipality of Ragusa website.
