About Porchetta Festival

The Giarratana Porchetta Festival is the event that kicks off the Christmas season in the small village nestled in the Iblean Mountains, in the province of Ragusa. Held on a December evening in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, right in front of the town hall, it celebrates the porchetta and high-quality meats for which Giarratana has always been renowned. With the aromas of street food, live concerts, street bands, and the magical atmosphere of Christmas markets, the festival draws visitors from across the Iblean province and beyond.

The Giarratana Porchetta Festival

In the heart of the Iblean Mountains, the small town of Giarratana — located in the province of Ragusa, in southeastern Sicily — celebrates one of its most beloved culinary products every December with the Porchetta Festival. The event brings Piazza Vittorio Veneto to life, right in front of the town hall, transforming the historic center into a large open-air lounge where taste, music, and Christmas tradition blend into an evening to be enjoyed together.

The star of the show: Porchetta

Giarratana has always been renowned for the excellent quality of its meats, the result of a long tradition of butchery and expert hands that guard recipes passed down from generation to generation. During the festival, porchetta is celebrated in all its glory: crispy skin, intense aromas, and authentic flavors welcome visitors to the street food stalls, where local meats are often in such high demand that they sell out even before the end of the evening.

Music and markets

The festival is about more than just food. The evening is accompanied by live concerts and a lively street band that brings rhythm and joy to the village streets. Along the square, Christmas markets set up shop with stalls featuring handicrafts, gift ideas, and local products, while Christmas lights illuminate the historic center, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere perfect for families and visitors of all ages.

A tradition that opens the Christmas season

The Porchetta Festival has now established itself as the event that officially inaugurates the Christmas festivities in Giarratana, ideally linked to the highly regarded Living Nativity that brings the village to life in the following days. Organized by the Municipality of Giarratana with the patronage of the Sicilian Region, the event combines the promotion of local food and wine excellence with the tourism development of one of the most evocative centers of the Iblei, making it an ideal destination for a winter outing filled with flavors, music, and popular culture.

The event traditionally takes place in December in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, marking the start of the Christmas festivities in the Iblean Mountains. We will update this page as soon as the Municipality of Giarratana releases the calendar and program for the new edition.
