Two days of flavor and tradition dedicated to the signature pastry of Racalmuto
In the heart of inland Sicily, within the hilly landscape of the Agrigento province, the Municipality of Racalmuto hosts a two-day event dedicated to its most iconic treat: the racalmutese tarallo. The Tarallo Festival was created to showcase this traditional pastry and bring the community together for a celebration of flavor, music, and entertainment that brings the historic center to life, particularly along Via Garibaldi and Piazza Francesco Crispi.
The Racalmuto tarallo is a soft, ring-shaped pastry covered in a crunchy white glaze infused with fresh local lemon zest. The traditional recipe combines flour, eggs, lard, and milk, perfumed with local citrus. Once associated with holidays and commemorations of the deceased, the tarallo has become a symbol of the village, even mentioned in the literary legacy of a land that gave birth to Leonardo Sciascia.

Scheduled for early June to coincide with Republic Day, the Tarallo Festival combines the promotion of local products with civic celebrations and folklore. It is a perfect opportunity to discover Racalmuto, its traditions, and its gastronomy in a convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from across the Agrigento province and all of Sicily.
The 2026 Racalmuto Tarallo Festival was held on June 1st and 2nd in the town's historic center. The first evening, Monday, June 1st, kicked off at 8:00 PM with the presentation of events, the opening of the Expovillage dedicated to crafts and agri-food, and the Folklore Festival parade along Via Garibaldi. From 8:30 PM, the Street Food and Beverage zone opened, featuring performances by folk groups and traditional Sicilian music, while at 9:30 PM, a live band performed in Piazza Francesco Crispi, alongside a fairground area for children.
On Tuesday, June 2nd, at 12:00 PM, the inauguration took place with the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the official Republic Day protocol in the presence of authorities, followed at 12:30 PM by a show cooking session and the "Children's Sweet Smiles" workshop. The event also featured tarallo tastings, stalls with local products, local crafts, and gatherings of vintage cars, tuning cars, and mountain bikes.
Racalmuto is located in the Agrigento hinterland. By car, it can be reached via the SS640 and the provincial roads connecting Agrigento to Caltanissetta; the nearest exit is for Racalmuto. The Racalmuto train station is served by the Agrigento-Caltanissetta line. The nearest airports are in Palermo and Catania.
Events take place in the historic center, along Via Garibaldi and in Piazza Francesco Crispi. The festival is held in early June, coinciding with Republic Day.
Access to the festival area is free; tastings and purchases at the stalls are paid.
