About Tarallo Festival

The Racalmuto Tarallo Festival celebrates the town's iconic lemon-glazed tarallo pastry with two days of tastings, street food, live music, and performances in the heart of the historic center. Held annually in early June to coincide with Republic Day, the event transforms the village streets into a culinary trail featuring food stalls, children's workshops, show cooking, and local crafts.

The Racalmuto Tarallo Festival

In the heart of inland Sicily, within the hilly landscape of the Agrigento province, the Municipality of Racalmuto hosts a two-day event dedicated to its most iconic treat: the racalmutese tarallo. The Tarallo Festival was created to showcase this traditional pastry and bring the community together for a celebration of flavor, music, and entertainment that brings the historic center to life, particularly along Via Garibaldi and Piazza Francesco Crispi.

The tarallo, a pastry with a long history

The Racalmuto tarallo is a soft, ring-shaped pastry covered in a crunchy white glaze infused with fresh local lemon zest. The traditional recipe combines flour, eggs, lard, and milk, perfumed with local citrus. Once associated with holidays and commemorations of the deceased, the tarallo has become a symbol of the village, even mentioned in the literary legacy of a land that gave birth to Leonardo Sciascia.

Two days of celebration

During the festival, Racalmuto transforms into a grand gastronomic trail. Recurring program highlights include:

  • tastings of taralli and traditional Sicilian sweets;
  • a street food and beverage zone with food stalls;
  • live music, folk groups, and performances in the square;
  • workshops and activities for children, show cooking, and "taste workshops";
  • exhibitions of local crafts and agri-food products;
  • gatherings of vintage cars, tuning cars, and mountain bikes.

An event for the community

Scheduled for early June to coincide with Republic Day, the Tarallo Festival combines the promotion of local products with civic celebrations and folklore. It is a perfect opportunity to discover Racalmuto, its traditions, and its gastronomy in a convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from across the Agrigento province and all of Sicily.
