Two days of flavor and tradition in the Abruzzo village known as the City of Truffles
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Nestled along the Sangro River in the mountainous hinterland of the Chieti province, the municipality of Quadri is one of the small Abruzzo villages that proudly bears the title of City of Truffles, as a member of the National Association of Truffle Cities. The woods surrounding the town are rich in truffles, and this earth-born treasure is the focus of the Truffle Market Exhibition, the most anticipated summer event in Quadri, which reached its twenty-first edition in 2025.
The heart of the event is Piazza del Popolo, which fills with stalls, aromas, and visitors for an entire weekend in late August. The absolute star is the truffle, offered both fresh and processed: creams, sauces, oils, and preserves. Alongside it, the region's gastronomic excellence takes center stage, from cheeses and cured meats to honey, jams, and traditional Abruzzo desserts.
The most delicious highlight is provided by the team of chefs who prepare menus entirely dedicated to truffles for lunch and dinner. The festival menu typically includes bruschetta with truffle cream, two pasta courses, a main course with a side, water, and a glass of red wine provided by the Citra Vini Consortium. An affordable tasting experience that allows everyone to discover how truffles can enhance Abruzzo cuisine.
The Market Exhibition is about more than just gastronomy. One of the most popular events is the truffle dog competition, where the loyal companions of truffle hunters showcase their extraordinary sense of smell in searching for the precious underground fungus. Furthermore, along the village streets, wood, ceramic, and jewelry artisans offer live demonstrations of their craft. Those interested can join free guided tours through the alleys of the historic center and to the nearby Trebula archaeological site, with its pre-Roman and Roman artifacts.
Organized by the Municipality of Quadri, the event is now a staple of summer in the Alto Sangro and a precious opportunity to promote a mountain area of Abruzzo often far from major tourist flows. Through tastings, music, crafts, and popular traditions, the Truffle Market Exhibition tells the authentic story of a territory where the bond with the land and its fruits remains incredibly strong.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Quadri Truffle Market Exhibition have not yet been released. Based on previous years, the event is usually held on a weekend in late August in Piazza del Popolo. To find out the final dates, times, and program, please follow the official channels of the Municipality of Quadri and the Quadri City of Truffles page.
