The festival of the "king of Trentino cheeses"

The Puzzone di Moena DOP Festival is a food and wine event that transforms the village of Moena and nearby Soraga di Fassa, in the heart of the Val di Fassa, into a grand celebration of the most famous cheese in the Trentino Dolomites every September. Puzzone di Moena DOP, known to locals by its Ladin name Spretz Tzaorì, owes its unmistakable character to the "smearing" technique, which gives the rind an intense aroma and a bold flavor: a Protected Designation of Origin product that tells the story of the deep bond between these valleys and the tradition of alpine farming.

The Desmontegada, the heart of the festival

The most anticipated moment of the festival is the Desmontegada, the ancient alpine rite of bringing livestock back from high-altitude pastures. Cows, sheep, horses, and goats, adorned with flowers and cowbells, parade through the town center accompanied by farmers, shepherds, brass bands, and folk groups in traditional Ladin costumes. The parade traditionally takes place on Saturday in Soraga di Fassa and on Sunday in Moena, involving the entire community in a day of celebration that blends rural culture, music, and flavors.

A program for every taste

The three days offer a rich calendar of events dedicated to Puzzone and the typical products of the Trentino mountains:

• Guided tastings and masterclasses in the town squares;
• Cooking shows and live cheesemaking demonstrations, showing the process "from milk to cheese" by the Caseificio Sociale di Predazzo e Moena;
• Puzzone Trek, a gourmet excursion through production sites with delicious stops;
• High-altitude dinners, aperitifs in the square, and local farmers' markets;
• Workshops and educational farms for children and families.

Organized by the Caseificio Sociale di Predazzo e Moena together with local tourism operators, the festival involves the municipalities of Moena, Soraga di Fassa, and Predazzo, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). It is a unique opportunity to discover the Dolomites off-season, amidst the colors of the alpine autumn, and to experience an authentic cheesemaking tradition awarded the DOP label.
