Se Desmonteghea - Festival of the Alpine Huts

The desmontegada, rite of the alpine autumn

In the Dolomite valleys, the end of summer coincides with the desmontegada: the return of the herds from the high-altitude alpine huts to the valley floor. In Falcade, in the Val del Biois, this moment turns into a great popular festival, "Se Desmonteghea", which attracts visitors from all over the Agordino area and beyond.

The parade of the herds

The heart of the event is the descent of the cows, adorned with colorful garlands of flowers and cowbells, which cross the village accompanied by herders in traditional costume. It is an authentic spectacle, telling centuries of alpine life and the bond between man and mountain.

Exhibitors, taste, and music

Along the streets and in the Piana di Falcade, over a hundred exhibitors of local products, from alpine hut cheeses to organic products from the Agordino area, set up in a large farmers' market. Food stalls, folk music, and entertainment liven up the entire weekend, involving the entire community.

In the heart of the Dolomites

Now in its twentieth edition, "Se Desmonteghea" takes place in Falcade, in the province of Belluno, in the UNESCO World Heritage Belluno Dolomites region. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the culture of alpine pasturing, mountain flavors, and the traditions of the Val del Biois.
