Sport, art, and music at Parco Willy Ferrero in Ostia
Punta Ovest is a free festival of sports, art, music, and cultural and scientific encounters that animates Parco Willy Ferrero, the green space in Piazza Lorenzo Gasparri in Nuova Ostia, within Rome's Municipio X. For two weeks, between late May and early June, the park becomes a widespread venue for events designed to bring children, teenagers, and families back into the neighborhood's public spaces, restoring social centrality to this corner of the Roman coast.
The heart of the event is the promotion of outdoor living and active citizenship. Mornings are dedicated to grassroots and inclusive sports, with mini-volleyball, mini-basketball, and team games for local schools, while afternoons alternate moments of collective participation like the drum circle, a community percussion gathering that involves the public in a massive rhythmic jam. There are also workshops dedicated to contemporary themes, such as the closing meeting on "digital vices" and the conscious use of technology.
One of the most anticipated moments is the parade that travels from the Ostia seafront to Parco Willy Ferrero: a musical and festive procession that crosses the neighborhood and turns the seaside promenade into an open-air stage. It is the iconic image of Punta Ovest, bridging the coastal beach area with the park's green space.
The festival was born from the collaboration between Roma Capitale, Municipio X, and a network of local schools and associations, including the Istituto Comprensivo Via delle Azzorre, the CFP Pasolini, and the IIS Carlo Urbani, alongside cooperatives and groups like Happy Surf, l'Allegra Banderuola, and the Teatro del Lido di Ostia. The initiative is part of a Priority Educational Interest project co-funded by the European Union, aimed at combating school dropout rates and enhancing public spaces in the suburbs.
From May 26 to June 10, 2026, Parco Willy Ferrero in Ostia hosted the free Punta Ovest festival, promoted by Roma Capitale and Municipio X in collaboration with local schools and associations. A rich program of events dedicated to sports, art, music, and cultural and scientific meetings, designed to bring children, teenagers, and families back into the neighborhood's public spaces.
