Urban sports, skateboarding, and live music in Piazza Anco Marzio, Ostia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Ostia Square Jam is the winter leg of a festival dedicated to urban sports and street culture, bringing increasingly popular youth disciplines into the public square. For three days, Piazza Anco Marzio, a pedestrian-friendly lounge overlooking the Ostia Lido seafront, turns into a massive outdoor playground where skateboarding, 3x3 basketball, freestyle football, and breakdance blend with live music. It is a free, open-to-all event that combines competition, entertainment, and community participation.
The event is part of the Square Jam circuit, which visits various squares across the Lazio region throughout the year: from summer stops in San Felice Circeo and Itri on the Pontine coast to the year-end finale in Ostia. The core idea is simple yet ambitious: to bring public squares back to the heart of neighborhood life, returning them to young people as spaces for gathering, sport, and creativity. In Ostia, the format finds its natural home, just steps away from The Spot Roma, one of Italy's most renowned skateparks.
Throughout the event, a series of contests, exhibitions, and tournaments take place across various disciplines. Activities featured in recent editions include:
Admission is free and open to everyone, allowing families, curious onlookers, and enthusiasts to experience the square in a festive holiday atmosphere.
The initiative is promoted by the sports association ASD Oasi Verde, led by William Zanchelli, in collaboration with Mark di Lello and the team managing The Spot Roma skatepark. The event is supported by the Sports Department of the Lazio Region and sponsored by Rome's Municipio X, of which Ostia is the main center.
Ostia Lido, a seaside district of the City of Rome in the Lazio region, has always been a beating heart of Roman urban culture, thanks in part to its deep-rooted tradition of skating and street sports. With the Ostia Square Jam, the lido's main square becomes a showcase for this youthful energy, in a late December celebration that unites sport, music, and a sense of community just a stone's throw from the sea.
At the moment, the organizers from ASD Oasi Verde and The Spot Roma have not yet released the dates and program for the 2026 edition. Based on previous editions, the Ostia Square Jam is expected to return in late December to Piazza Anco Marzio, featuring skateboarding contests, 3x3 basketball tournaments, freestyle football, breakdance, and live music. The detailed program and schedule will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
