The festival of the fishing community of Punta Longa, in Favignana
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Punta Longa Fishing Village Festival is the celebration that brings the picturesque fishing village of Punta Longa (also known as Punta Lunga) to life every early September. Located in a small coastal hamlet of Favignana, in the heart of the Aegadian Islands archipelago in the province of Trapani, the event was created to promote the culture and identity of this ancient maritime community, blending faith, tradition, gastronomy, music, and a strong commitment to marine conservation.
The program typically spans two days, between Friday and Saturday, in the evocative setting of the village overlooking the sea. Among the most heartfelt moments is the solemn blessing of the statue of the Madonna del Borgo, which highlights the deep bond between the community and its faith. The gastronomic side revolves around the famous Tuna Festival, a tribute to the fish that symbolizes the Aegadian Islands and the ancient tradition of the Favignana tuna fishery.
A distinctive feature of the festival is its environmental awareness: recent editions have showcased projects such as "The Fisherman's New Crate" and the "Ghost Net Operation" recovery initiative, demonstrating a village that looks to the future by combining roots and innovation. These meetings often involve experts, journalists, and environmental communicators in collaboration with the Aegadian Islands Marine Protected Area.
Organized by the Punta Longa Fishing Village Association with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Favignana, the festival is free to attend and attracts residents and visitors alike every year. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Aegadian Islands, far from mass tourism, where life still flows to the rhythm of the sea and its fishermen.
At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. The Punta Longa Fishing Village Festival is traditionally held in early September in the fishing village of Favignana, in the Aegadian Islands. We are awaiting official confirmation of the dates and program from the Punta Longa Fishing Village Association and the Municipality of Favignana.
Favignana can be reached by hydrofoil or ferry from the ports of Trapani and Marsala (Liberty Lines and Siremar services). From the main town of Favignana, the village of Punta Longa is located on the southwestern side of the island and can be reached by car, bicycle, or scooter (all easily rented on the island).
Admission to the festival is free. Activities usually take place in the late afternoon and evening. For updated dates and the full program, we recommend checking the event's social media pages and the Municipality of Favignana website.
We recommend booking ferries and accommodation in advance, especially during the high season. Bring comfortable clothing and a light jacket for the evening by the sea.
