The May 1st food and wine picnic at Parco San Felice in Torino di Sangro
The Primo Maggio Torinese is a popular festival that celebrates Labor Day in Torino di Sangro, a small town in the province of Chieti overlooking the Costa dei Trabocchi, in Abruzzo. Every May 1st, the lush Parco San Felice transforms into a large, convivial open-air space where families, friends, and visitors spend a day dedicated to relaxation, good food, and entertainment.
The heart of the event is the food and wine picnic: attendees can book a basket filled with local specialties to enjoy on the park's lawns, or choose from various food stalls set up for the occasion. It is the perfect opportunity to savor traditional Abruzzese delicacies in a relaxed and informal setting, far from the daily grind.
The day is filled with live music and plenty of activities for both adults and children. There are games, children's entertainment, and moments of connection that make the festival a true community gathering. Among the most anticipated activities is the 'Peking Express'-style treasure hunt, a team challenge full of trials and riddles that turns the park into a giant outdoor playground.
The Primo Maggio Torinese is organized by the FantArena association together with the Pro Loco Torino di Sangro APS and the San Felice association, with the support of the Municipality of Torino di Sangro. These same groups animate the town throughout the year with tournaments, cultural initiatives, and social events, such as the famous summer Magnalonga. The May 1st festival was born from a desire to showcase the town's green spaces and offer the community an authentic gathering place for everyone.
Within the spring festival calendar of the Chieti province, the Primo Maggio Torinese has quickly established itself as a beloved event for locals and visitors traveling along the Abruzzo coast.
