The festival celebrating traditional Apulian first courses in Stornara
Primi di Puglia is a food and wine event celebrating traditional Apulian first courses in the historic center of Stornara, a town in the Tavoliere delle Puglie, in the province of Foggia. Conceived and organized by the ARCI Travel APS association, the festival transforms Corso Ettore Fieramosca and Piazza della Repubblica for an entire weekend into a grand tasting trail, where the public can sample handmade pasta that tells the story of the region's rural cuisine.
The event's common thread is the first course: orecchiette, cavatelli, troccoli, and other traditional pastas prepared according to family recipes. The stalls set up along the main street offer a true journey through taste, highlighting typical products and the agri-food excellence of Puglia. The trail is designed not only as a tasting experience but also as a narrative of local gastronomic culture, featuring meetings and testimonials from local restaurateurs and chefs.
Alongside the dining experience, the program alternates between entertainment and culture: cooking workshops for children focused on the Mediterranean diet, comedy shows, live music with street bands and roaming drum groups, evening DJ sets, and the entertaining Cotto & Deliberato cooking show, which pits local mayors against each other in a friendly culinary challenge. Sunday morning is enlivened by an exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles, adding a touch of collecting and automotive passion to the festival.
Stornara is known as one of the mural towns of Southern Italy: its streets are an open-air museum thanks to the numerous street art works that color its facades. During Primi di Puglia, guided tours of the murals are organized—by reservation at the infopoint—allowing visitors to discover the village's artistic heritage alongside its gastronomic one.
The event is sponsored by the Apulia Region (Department of Tourism and Agriculture) and the Municipality of Stornara, and was created with the goal of promoting the territory and its excellence, attracting visitors, and strengthening the sense of community through the rediscovery of traditions. Over the years, Primi di Puglia has become a defining event for Stornara and the entire Capitanata area, capable of uniting taste, culture, and conviviality.
The third edition of Primi di Puglia enlivened the center of Stornara over the weekend of April 18 and 19, 2026, confirming the formula that combines gastronomy, culture, and entertainment. Organized by ARCI Travel APS, the event featured the grand tasting trail of Apulian first courses alongside shows, music, and family activities.
Among the most anticipated moments were the gastronomic workshops dedicated to children on the theme of the Mediterranean diet, the Cotto & Deliberato cooking show with the culinary challenge between local mayors, and guided tours of the town's murals. The soundtrack was provided by street bands, roaming drum groups, and evening DJ sets.
Stornara is located in the Tavoliere delle Puglie, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Foggia or Cerignola Ovest exits) and the SS16 Adriatica state road. The reference railway station is Cerignola, while the nearest airports are Bari-Palese and Foggia-Gino Lisa.
Access to the event and shows is free. Tastings of the first courses take place at the stalls along the food and wine trail on Corso Ettore Fieramosca and Piazza della Repubblica.
Guided tours of the murals can be booked at the infopoint set up along the main street. For updated information on the program and times, it is recommended to follow the event's official Facebook page.
