The Carnival returns to light up Piazza Umberto I, in the heart of the Bassa Reggiana
Every year, in the middle of winter, Piazza Umberto I in Poviglio transforms into a large festive space to celebrate Carnival. We are in the Bassa Reggiana, in the province of Reggio Emilia, and this event is one of the most loved by families from the town and surrounding areas: an afternoon dedicated entirely to fun, costumes, and shared joy.
After a period of pause, the festival has returned to animate the historic center, restoring a popular tradition to which the people of Poviglio are very attached. Children and adults in costume fill the square with confetti and colors, creating a carefree atmosphere that warms the cold season.
The heart of the event is a charming colorful funfair, a true reconstruction of an amusement park with numerous themed stations designed for the little ones. Among the attractions are duck fishing, clown-themed can tossing, the western village, the princess castle, basketball game, and the wheel of fortune: a playful route that keeps children engaged all afternoon.
The day is enriched by live shows and entertainment, with guests beloved by the Poviglio audience. The festival also celebrates imagination with the award ceremony for the most beautiful and original masks, an anticipated moment that rewards the creativity of both adults and children.
There is also a food and wine section: the refreshment stands set up in the square offer sweet and savory specialties, from fritters to typical products of the Emilian Carnival tradition, to accompany the festival with taste and conviviality.
The Poviglio Carnival is, above all, a community celebration, organized in the municipality with the involvement of local associations. For those who want to discover the Bassa Reggiana in its most authentic and family-friendly dimension, it is the ideal opportunity to experience a simple and joyful day in the center of a town in Emilia-Romagna.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, starting at 3:30 PM, Piazza Umberto I in Poviglio hosted the Carnival in the historic center for the second consecutive year. The festival, dedicated especially to children and families, enlivened the afternoon with a rich program of games, shows, and moments of conviviality.
The protagonist of the day was the Maxi Luna Park Color, a charming reconstruction of a real funfair with numerous themed stations, including duck fishing, clown-themed can tossing, the western village, the princess castle, basketball game, and the wheel of fortune. The festival concluded with the mask awards, celebrating creativity and imagination, accompanied by refreshment stands offering various sweet and savory gastronomic options.
