Soundscapes and electroacoustic music at Castel Beseno
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Founded in 2004, the Portobeseno Festival has established itself over the years as one of the most original experiences in the Trentino music scene. Hosted within the walls of Castel Beseno in the municipality of Besenello (province of Trento), the festival transforms the region's largest fortress into a massive acoustic instrument, where architecture, landscape, and sound engage in a crescendo of live installations and performances.
Portobeseno goes beyond a simple concert lineup: it is conceived as a participatory cultural process that intertwines history, landscape, and community through electroacoustic music and environmental sounds. The castle, perched on a hill overlooking the Vallagarina valley between Trento and Rovereto, becomes a character-location that tells its own story through vibrations, echoes, and resonances. The audience is invited to move through the courtyards, walls, and walkways, experiencing listening as an exploration of space and time.
The program focuses on contemporary musical research: electroacoustic music, improvisation, permanent and temporary sound installations, immersive performances, and guided listening walks. Throughout its editions, the festival has hosted prominent musicians and sound artists, alternating solo and collective sets that leverage the fortress's natural acoustics. The result is a journey where the boundaries between concert, installation, and landscape dissolve.
Over twenty years of activity have made Portobeseno a landmark for those seeking an unconventional cultural experience in Trentino, capable of combining the charm of medieval heritage with cutting-edge musical experimentation.
The 2026 edition of the Portobeseno Festival does not yet have an official date at the time of this publication. The festival, which has been bringing Castel Beseno in Besenello (Trentino) to life since 2004, is usually held in early September and reaffirms its commitment to sound research and landscape listening year after year. As soon as the organization announces the dates, theme, and program for the 2026 edition, this page will be updated with all relevant information.
Castel Beseno is located on the hill above the village of Besenello, between Trento and Rovereto.
