The inaugural festival dedicated to the king of the Monti Cimini woods, featuring maccaroni, ceciliani, and woodland walks.
In the heart of the Tuscia Viterbese region, resting on the slopes of the Monti Cimini, the small town of Canepina (Province of Viterbo, Lazio) has long been known as the village of chestnuts. Beneath the canopy of its vast chestnut groves, in woods that feel plucked from a fairy tale, one of the forest's most prized treasures grows wild: the porcini mushroom. From May 22nd to 24th, 2026, Canepina celebrates this forest king with the first edition of the Porcini Mushroom Festival, organized by the Associazione Canepina Nascosta APS at the atmospheric Cantina di Santa Corona.
The festival is a celebration of taste. The menu is crafted entirely around fresh porcini, which perfectly complement the two signature pasta dishes of Canepina: maccaroniโthe famous handmade pasta also known as fieno canepinese for its thin, elongated shapeโand ceciliani, another local specialty. The king of the woods meets the tradition of handmade pasta in a culinary encounter that defines the gastronomic identity of the Cimini area. Dinners and lunches are served within the historic cellar and the charming village square.
The event pairs its culinary offerings with a rich entertainment program for all ages. Each day features walks, trekking, and guided tours organized by the Associazione Canepina Nascosta, allowing visitors to explore the historic center and the natural beauty of the Cimini woods. Guests can also enjoy concerts and dance evenings with live music, a team-based treasure hunt complete with a fun Mushroom Hunter's Passport, forest-themed creative workshops for children, and the lively Mushroom Mini-Olympics. A camper area is available for those wishing to enjoy the full weekend in comfort.
Attending the Porcini Mushroom Festival is the perfect excuse to explore Canepina, a gem at the foot of Monte Cimino just over ten kilometers from Viterbo. The area, covered in centuries-old chestnut groves, produces a significant portion of Lazio's chestnut harvest and offers an abundance of porcini in season. With its winding alleys, folk traditions, and genuine flavors, this first edition is set to become a new staple of the spring season in the Tuscia region.
From May 22nd to 24th, 2026, Canepina hosted the first edition of the Porcini Mushroom Festival at the Cantina di Santa Corona. Three days dedicated to the king of the Monti Cimini woods, with lunches and dinners entirely based on fresh porcini, traditional maccaroni (fieno canepinese), and ceciliani, accompanied by live music, guided forest treks, a treasure hunt, and children's workshops.
The program for the first edition was spread over three days:
Canepina is located in the Monti Cimini, in the Province of Viterbo, just over ten kilometers from the provincial capital. By car, it can be reached from Viterbo via the provincial roads of the Cimini; the most convenient motorway exit is Orte (A1), from where you continue towards Viterbo and Canepina. The festival venue is the Cantina di Santa Corona, located in the village.
Booking is highly recommended by calling or messaging +39 0761 1871003 via WhatsApp. A camper area is available for those wishing to spend the entire weekend on-site.
Comfortable shoes are recommended for walks and forest trekking. The hilly climate in May can be cool in the evenings, so it is best to bring a light jacket.
