The Hazelnut Festival is the most iconic and historic event in Caprarola, an elegant village in the Viterbo Tuscia region, famous for its monumental Palazzo Farnese. Established in the 1950s, the event celebrates its 70th edition in 2026, confirming its status as one of the longest-running and most popular festivals in the province of Viterbo and the entire Lazio region. Every year, at the end of August, the historic center transforms into a large open-air stage dedicated to the fruit that made these hills famous: the Monti Cimini hazelnut.
An entire community in celebration
The heart of the festival lies in the famous allegorical floats, an authentic symbol of the event, born from months of hard work by local groups. Crafted with passion and ingenuity, they parade through the town's streets, delighting both adults and children. Surrounding the floats is a rich calendar of events: live concerts, DJ sets, street performances, children's entertainment, and moments of fun that keep the evenings lively until late.
Hazelnuts on the table
The hazelnut remains the absolute star, present in every corner of the festival. At the food stalls set up in the historic center, you can enjoy traditional sweets, artisanal specialties, and local dishes, alongside a wide variety of street food. Since 2024, the Caprarola Hazelnut Festival has held the Quality Festival (Sagra di Qualità) certification, a recognition that guarantees its authenticity, promotion of local products, and organizational excellence.

Hazelnut Festival — edition 2026
70th Hazelnut Festival 2026
For its major 70-year milestone, the Caprarola Hazelnut Festival returns to the historic center with two weekends of celebration: August 21-23 and August 28 - September 1, 2026. The edition is organized by the Class of 1986 with the coordination of the Caprarola Pro Loco.
The central theme for 2026 is "Willy Nocchia and the Hazelnut Factory," a whimsical reworking of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory adapted to the world of Monti Cimini hazelnuts. Around this concept, the traditional allegorical floats will come to life with their parades through the village streets, alongside concerts, DJ sets, shows, and children's entertainment. There will also be food stalls featuring hazelnut desserts, local specialties, and street food.

How to get there
Caprarola is located in the Viterbo Tuscia region, in the Monti Cimini hills. By car: from the A1 motorway, take the Orte exit, then the SS Cassia towards Viterbo and provincial roads to Caprarola; about 70 km from Rome via the Cassia. The nearest train station is Viterbo, which is connected by Cotral bus lines.
Admission and hours
The event has free admission and takes place in the historic center. Events are concentrated in the late afternoon and evening, with food stalls open throughout the festival days.
Tips
During the parade days, the village is very crowded: we recommend arriving early and parking in the areas outside the center. Combine your visit with a tour of Palazzo Farnese and its Italian-style garden.
