The chocolate and chestnut festival in the heart of Tuscia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Cioccofest and Chestnut Festival is the major autumn celebration in the Municipality of Caprarola, located in the Province of Viterbo, in the heart of the Lazio Tuscia region. Every year, for two weekends in October, the Renaissance village transforms into a gourmet paradise, combining the Chocolate Festival and the Chestnut Festival into one grand event. Organized by the Pro Loco of Caprarola, it has become a staple of the Lazio food and wine calendar.
The heart of the festival is the picturesque Palazzo Farnese Stables Park, approximately two hectares of greenery at the foot of one of the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. Caprarola is world-renowned for the monumental Palazzo Farnese, a 16th-century villa designed by Vignola, and strolling through the Cioccofest stalls with this backdrop makes for a truly unique experience.
The star of the show is, naturally, chocolate in all its forms: pralines, bars, spreads, chocolate sculptures, and artisan specialties offered by master chocolatiers from across Italy. Alongside the chocolate, the chestnut celebrates the fruits of the autumn forest, featuring roasted chestnuts, desserts, and traditional recipes. There are also plenty of stalls dedicated to typical Tuscia products and local crafts.
The Cioccofest is designed for all ages. The program includes live music, bubble and magic shows, bird of prey flight demonstrations, dance performances, and concerts. There is plenty of space for children, with pony rides, storytelling, sensory forest trails, and play areas. The food areas, managed by the Pro Loco and local committees, offer traditional autumn dishes and specialties to enjoy on-site.
Admission is free, and the event is served by large parking areas with a continuous shuttle service to the festival grounds. The Cioccofest is the perfect opportunity to discover Caprarola, its Renaissance heritage, and the genuine flavors of the Lazio autumn, blending culture, gastronomy, and fun in one of the most beautiful locations in Tuscia.
