The porchetta festival in the heart of Salento
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Porchetta Festival is one of the most anticipated culinary events of the summer in Monteroni di Lecce, a town in the Salento region of the Lecce province, in Puglia. Every year, in early August, Piazza Falconieri and the surrounding streets fill with food stalls, music, and visitors, with roasted porchetta serving as the undisputed star of the table.
Reaching its third edition in 2025, the event was born in 2023 and has quickly become a fixed appointment on the Monteroni summer calendar. Its strength lies in combining popular and authentic gastronomy with a rich program of entertainment, in a square setting that encourages interaction between residents, curious visitors, and tourists vacationing in Salento.
The Porchetta Festival takes place during the same days as the patronal feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, celebrated in Monteroni with great enthusiasm in early August. While maintaining its own identity as a food festival, the event integrates into the festive atmosphere that involves the entire town, featuring religious rites, illuminations, brass bands, and concerts in the square.
The program complements street food with a lively musical offering. During the festival evenings, traditional brass band concerts—featuring prestigious groups such as the "Città di Monteroni" Band and guest bands from other parts of Puglia and Campania—alternate with major concerts by Italian pop artists hosted in Piazza Falconieri, often accompanied by entertainment and DJ sets. In 2025, the square cheered for Orietta Berti with her show "La mia vita è un film".
The heart of the festival remains the porchetta, served hot at the stalls along with other Salento street food specialties. The gastronomic offering is accompanied by the Arte e Gusto Market, set up along Via Roma and in Piazza Falconieri, where local crafts, typical products, and creativity find space. A stroll through the stalls is the perfect opportunity to discover the flavors and traditions of this corner of Puglia.
Easily accessible from Lecce, just a few kilometers from the provincial capital, Monteroni di Lecce offers an extra reason to visit the Salento hinterland in summer with the Porchetta Festival. The event has free admission and represents an authentic village festival experience, blending taste, tradition, and music. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; it is expected to take place in early August, as is customary.
The 2026 Porchetta Festival is expected to return to animate Piazza Falconieri in Monteroni di Lecce in early August, as per tradition.
