The charity lunch in Moriondo Torinese featuring polenta, stew, and gorgonzola
The Polenta dell'Amicizia is one of the most cherished events for the community of Moriondo Torinese, a small village of just over eight hundred residents nestled in the rolling hills near Turin. Every year, as spring arrives, the village square transforms into a large open-air dining room where neighbors, families, and visitors gather around a steaming plate of food.
At the heart of the festival is, of course, the polenta, prepared according to traditional Piedmontese methods and served piping hot. It is accompanied by two classics of local hill cuisine:
The format is the simple, generous style typical of village festivals: everyone sits together, chats, and enjoys a convivial meal prepared by local volunteers.
The Polenta dell'Amicizia is more than just a culinary event: the lunch is offered for a voluntary donation, and all proceeds are donated to charity. This spirit of giving defines the event, combining a passion for fine food with a commitment to helping others. Participating means enjoying a joyful day while making a tangible contribution to a charitable cause.
The event is powered by the Pro Loco of Moriondo Torinese, the driving force behind the village's social life, supported by the local Alpini Group. Volunteers handle the cooking, the setup of the square, and the hospitality, creating the warm, family-like atmosphere that is the hallmark of festivals in the Turin hills.
Moriondo Torinese is an ideal destination for those seeking the authenticity of rural Piedmont: scattered hamlets, vineyards, woodlands, and a vibrant food and wine tradition that lasts all year, culminating in the autumn with the famous Sagra del Cavolo Liscio. The Polenta dell'Amicizia serves as the perfect kickoff to the spring season, offering residents and visitors a chance to discover this authentic corner of the region, just a short distance from Turin, Chieri, and the Asti area.
The event takes place in spring, starting at lunchtime, in the main square of Moriondo Torinese. In case of bad weather, the lunch will be held indoors at the municipal sports hall.
By car from Turin: Moriondo Torinese can be reached in about 30-40 minutes via the Chieri hills; the village is just a few kilometers from Chieri and Castelnuovo Don Bosco. It is also easily accessible from the Asti area.
The lunch is based on a voluntary donation: you may contribute as much as you wish, with all proceeds going to charity.
As this is a very popular village festival, it is advisable to arrive early. For updated information on dates and times, it is best to contact the Pro Loco of Moriondo Torinese.
