Smoked salmon pizza baked in a wood-fired oven, in the heart of the Fermo hills
The Pizza Festival in Monteleone di Fermo is not your typical pizza festival. The star dish is an original creation by brothers Giampaolo and Cristiano Verducci: a white pizza with oven-cooked red onion and radicchio, topped at the end of baking with artisanal cold-smoked salmon. The dough is made from a blend of "00" type soft wheat flour, wholemeal flour, organic sourdough starter, local extra virgin olive oil, water, and salt, and is strictly baked in a wood-fired oven. The result is an unmistakable flavour that has made this pizza the town's signature dish.
Each year, the event celebrates the anniversary of the historic Angelini bar, a local gathering spot managed for over fifty years by Mrs. Teresa Angelini, known to everyone as "Gabriella," since 1965. Her sons, Giampaolo and Cristiano, wanted to honour their mother by creating this festival, which combines the memory of a place loved by the community with the pleasure of good food. The Pizza Festival is closely linked to the "Festival del Salmone" (Salmon Festival), the town's other major gastronomic event, sharing a passion for homemade smoked salmon.
The event is held at the Circolo ASD Monte Leone Sporting Club House Inn, at Via Chiavanella 1 in Monteleone di Fermo, a small village in the inland hills of the Province of Fermo, in the Marche region. The food stand welcomes guests both indoors and outdoors, on the terrace and in the charming olive grove: the event takes place regardless of the weather.
In addition to the star pizza, editions feature new culinary offerings such as hot-smoked salmon burgers and enrich the evenings with side events: in 2025, for example, the first evening hosted an astronomy night with telescope observation of the stars. The atmosphere remains that of a genuine Marche village festival, where neighbours and visitors sit together at tables in an informal and welcoming environment.
The 2026 edition of the Pizza Festival celebrates the twelfth anniversary of the event that honours the historic Angelini bar in Monteleone di Fermo. The dates are from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, with the food stand open in the evening until late at night, both indoors and outdoors in the olive grove of the Circolo ASD Monte Leone.
The star remains the "Festival" pizza, handmade and baked in a wood-fired oven, with a white base, red onion, and radicchio, topped with cold-smoked salmon. Table reservations are recommended; takeaway service is also available.

Monteleone di Fermo can be reached by car from the A14 motorway exits at Pedaso or Porto San Giorgio-Fermo, heading inland towards the Fermo area. The event is held at the Circolo ASD Monte Leone, Via Chiavanella 1.
