The Fermo stop of the international total poetry festival that crosses the Marche every summer
La Punta della Lingua is the main international poetry festival in the Marche region and one of the longest-running and most original poetry events in Italy. Organized by the Social Promotion Association Nie Wiem and directed by poet Luigi Socci and critic Valerio Cuccaroni, since 2006 it has enlivened Ancona and numerous towns in the region every summer with its formula of total poetry: not just readings, but performances, shows, concerts, screenings, videopoetry, slams, workshops, and poetic excursions. The Municipality of Fermo, in the Province of Fermo, is one of the recurring stops on this poetic journey through the Marche.
In Fermo, the festival chooses evocative locations in the historic centre: the Cortile Gigliucci hosts the evening performances, while the poetic excursions lead the audience through the Palazzo dei Priori, the main square, and the city's alleys. In the past, the event has also reached Torre di Palme, one of the most beautiful hamlets in the Fermo area, blending verses with the landscapes and villages of the Piceno region. It is a travelling formula that makes poetry a widespread experience, capable of linking words to the cultural sites of the Marche.
In about ten days, La Punta della Lingua brings together dozens of Italian and foreign authors and artists, alternating major names in contemporary poetry with younger and more experimental voices. Over its more than twenty editions, the festival has hosted hundreds of authors, building a constant dialogue between poetry, theatre, music, and cinema. Alongside readings, there is space for special projects, such as the Franco Scataglini Award / Poetry That Is Seen, an international videopoetry competition dedicated to the great dialect poet from Ancona, workshops for schools, and writing residencies.
The Fermo stop of La Punta della Lingua is part of a festival that is now a benchmark for the cultural life of the entire Marche region. Almost all events have free admission until capacity is reached, a choice that makes poetry a shared and accessible asset. For those visiting Fermo in the summer, it is an opportunity to discover the city through the voices of poets, in evenings that combine words, theatre, and music under the sky of the Cortile Gigliucci.
The 21st edition of La Punta della Lingua, scheduled from June 27 to July 6, 2026 (with some previews starting in June), confirms the total poetry formula with over 90 authors and artists between Ancona and the Marche. The artistic direction is by Luigi Socci and Valerio Cuccaroni for the Nie Wiem Association; the edition celebrates the memory of Franco Scataglini and the centenary of Lamberto Pignotti.
In Fermo, the festival stops on Sunday, July 5, 2026, with a poetic excursion in the afternoon and, in the evening, the main performance at the Cortile Gigliucci. It is one of the most anticipated events in the programming spread across the Marche.
The Fermo stop is part of the festival's overall program (June 27 – July 6, 2026), which also takes place in Ancona, Jesi, Grottammare, Recanati, Osimo, Offagna, and Portonovo. Full program and updates at www.lapuntadellalingua.it.
In Fermo, evening performances are held at the Cortile Gigliucci, in the historic centre, while poetic excursions start from symbolic places like the Palazzo dei Priori. The festival's main venue remains the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona.
Fermo can be reached by car from the Porto San Giorgio-Fermo exit of the A14 motorway, then following signs for the historic centre. By train, get off at Porto San Giorgio-Fermo station, connected to the centre by shuttle bus. The historic centre is largely pedestrianised: it's best to use the car parks near the walls.
Most of the events are free admission until capacity is reached. Complete programme, any reservations and updates on the official website www.lapuntadellalingua.it.
