A night of love in the medieval village of Petritoli, amidst the hills of the Aso Valley in the Marche region
In the heart of the Aso Valley, in the province of Fermo, the village of Petritoli participates every year in the Notte Romantica nei Borghi più Belli d'Italia, the major national event promoted by the association "I Borghi più Belli d'Italia" (The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy). For one evening, around the summer solstice, the historic centre of the Marche region dresses up for love: soft lights, flowers, and themed decorations turn the alleys and squares into an intimate and evocative setting, designed for those seeking a timeless night.
The Romantic Night involves almost two hundred villages throughout Italy every year, with hundreds of scattered initiatives and hundreds of thousands of visitors. Each village interprets the theme of love in its own way with concerts, shows, exhibitions, and walks, but two moments unite all participating centres: the special dessert "Pensiero d'amore" (Thought of Love) served in restaurants and the famous midnight kiss, accompanied by the release of biodegradable balloons. The initiative is part of an international circuit that unites the associations of the most beautiful villages in Spain, France, Wallonia (Belgium), and Japan, in the world federation "Les Plus Beaux Villages de la Terre" (The Most Beautiful Villages of the Earth).
Petritoli is one of the certified most beautiful villages in Italy in the Marche region. Built around the year 1000 on a hill overlooking the green Aso Valley, it offers a panorama stretching from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic coast. The historic centre, developed on multiple levels, preserves neoclassical palaces, brick alleys, and symbolic monuments such as the Tre Archi (Three Arches), the Torre Civica (Civic Tower), and the Teatro dell'Iride (Iris Theatre), a small 19th-century gem. It is no coincidence that the village is nicknamed "the village of weddings", a destination chosen by couples from all over the world to say "I do". This vocation makes the Romantic Night a particularly cherished event.
In Petritoli, the Romantic Night focuses on the intimacy of the place: the village is decorated with a theme, and the streets of the centre come alive with music, tastings of typical products, and walks to discover the most evocative spots. It is an opportunity to experience the village at a slow pace, letting yourself be guided by the lights and music on an evening that combines romance, culture, and the landscape of the Fermo area.
The event is promoted by the national association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and managed locally by the Municipality of Petritoli, as part of the village's summer programme. Admission is free, and the event is suitable for couples, families, and anyone who wants to spend a different kind of night in the historic centre, amidst an atmosphere of love and discovery of the Aso Valley territory.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in Petritoli, in the province of Fermo, will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, coinciding with the national event promoted by the association "I Borghi più Belli d'Italia". The village in the Marche region is included in the official list of participating centres and, as tradition dictates, will offer an evening of music, tastings, and walks in the illuminated and thematically decorated historic centre, sharing with other villages the symbolic moments of the event: the "Pensiero d'amore" dessert and the midnight kiss.
The detailed programme for Petritoli in 2026 (times, locations, and guests) will be announced by the Municipality and the organizing committee in the weeks leading up to the event. The initiative has free admission and is part of the village's summer calendar, nicknamed "the village of weddings".
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition in Petritoli will be published by the Municipality and the association "I Borghi più Belli d'Italia" in the weeks preceding the event.
As per the tradition of the Romantic Night, the evening of June 20, 2026 in the historic centre will feature themed lights and decorations, music and tastings of typical products, walks through the village alleys, and the two moments shared nationally: the "Pensiero d'amore" dessert served in restaurants and the midnight kiss accompanied by the release of biodegradable balloons.
The Romantic Night is held in the historic centre of Petritoli (FM), in the Marche region, with events spread across the squares and alleys of the village, from the Tre Archi to the Teatro dell'Iride.
