About Lo magnà de 'na ota

For over twenty years, in the heart of summer, the village of Monsampietro Morico brings back to the table the flavours of our grandparents. "Lo magnà de 'na ota" is a festival dedicated to the peasant cuisine of the Marche region of the past: frascarelli, maltagliati with viscelli, roast goose, tripe, and many other almost forgotten dishes. Among the food stalls set up in the historic centre, you can breathe the authentic atmosphere of tradition, accompanied by local folk songs and dances.

A festival that preserves the memory of taste

In the small village of Monsampietro Morico, in the province of Fermo, in the heart of the Marche region, one of the most cherished festivals in the area takes place every summer: "Lo magnà de 'na ota", meaning "eating like in the old days". For over twenty years, this event has taken visitors on a journey back in time, rediscovering the flavours and aromas of the Marche peasant cuisine, the kind found in country houses and prepared by grandmothers, made with simple ingredients and great skill.

Dishes of tradition

The true star of the festival is traditional food, prepared according to the recipes of yesteryear. Among the specialities you can taste at the stalls in the historic centre are dishes that have become rare on modern tables:

  • Frascarelli, the classic polenta-like dish of poor Marche cuisine;
  • Maltagliati with viscelli and moccolotti with sauce;
  • Roast goose, one of the festival's highlights;
  • Tripe, pig's trotters and cooked loin;
  • Frecantò of vegetables, roasted tomatoes, and bread with oil and mint;
  • traditional desserts like pizza dolce (sweet cake).

Folklore, songs, and dances

"Lo magnà de 'na ota" is not just about gastronomy: the festival comes alive every evening with the traditional songs and dances of Marche popular culture, animated by the local folk group. The streets and squares of the village fill with music, creating a convivial and genuine atmosphere that attracts numerous visitors from neighbouring towns and the entire province of Fermo each year.

A village to discover

The festival is also an excellent opportunity to visit Monsampietro Morico, a small municipality in the Fermo hinterland nestled in the rolling hills of the Marche. The historic centre, quiet and peaceful for most of the year, transforms into a vibrant stage during the event, where tradition, community, and good food come together. Organized by the Associazione Ricreativa Culturale Le Scalette (Le Scalette Recreational Cultural Association) with the collaboration of local associations, the festival is one of the most anticipated summer events on the local calendar.

2026 Edition

The 20th edition of the festival is planned for 2026, confirmed in the regional calendar of events for the Marche. The event traditionally takes place on the evenings of August 8th and 9th; the precise dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
