The Pizza and Beer Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Civitella d'Agliano, a charming medieval village in the province of Viterbo, Lazio. Every year in mid-August, the historic center is transformed for five nights into a vibrant open-air celebration: streets, alleys, and squares are filled with long tables, lights, and music, as the entire community gathers to welcome both locals and visitors to the Tuscia region.
The gastronomic heart of the festival lies in the pairing that gives it its name: freshly baked pizza and beer, including a wide selection of craft brews. Alongside the pizza ovens and stalls, food stands managed by local volunteers offer dishes for every taste, accompanied by excellent Tuscia wine—a historic territory around Viterbo famous for its wines and typical products. It is simple, popular cuisine designed to be shared in good company under the August stars.
One of the most beloved features of the festival is its layout across multiple squares, each with a different program. Typically, the village offers:
This way, the festival caters to all generations: families with children, young people, and dance enthusiasts each find their own corner of the celebration.
The Pizza and Beer Festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Civitella d'Agliano together with the Municipality and local associations, thanks to the hard work of many volunteers. In its various editions, the event has often supported charitable initiatives for the town and the surrounding area. It is one of those festivals that perfectly captures the spirit of the inland Lazio villages, where summer celebrations are primarily an opportunity for gathering and collective identity.
Perched on a tuff spur in the Viterbo Tuscia, Civitella d'Agliano is a characteristic medieval village dominated by the Cassero Monaldeschi tower. Visiting the town during the festival means discovering its narrow streets and historic squares at their liveliest, combining heritage exploration with an evening of great food and music. Its location, just a few kilometers from the border with Umbria and not far from Bagnoregio and the Valle dei Calanchi, makes it an ideal destination for those wanting to explore this authentic corner of Lazio.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Civitella d'Agliano (VT), among the squares and alleys of the village. Piazza Cardinale Dolci and the adjacent squares host food stalls and stages.
By car: from Orvieto or the A1 motorway exit of Orvieto, you can reach Civitella d'Agliano in about 20 minutes; the village is also connected to Viterbo and Bagnoregio. It is recommended to park in the areas outside the historic center and continue on foot.
The stalls and musical evenings come alive in the evening. Admission to the festival is free; pizza, beer, and drinks are available for purchase at the stalls.
