About Neighborhood Carnival

The Neighborhood Carnival is a decentralized festival brought directly to the city's districts by the Municipality of Pisa and Pisamo. For two weeks in February, squares and neighborhoods like La Cella, Cep, San Giusto, Marina di Pisa, and Riglione-Oratoio come alive with face painting, costumes, music, and traditional treats. It is a free, community-focused carnival designed for children and families, stepping outside the historic center to rediscover the local spirit.

A carnival that leaves the center and comes to your doorstep

The Pisa Neighborhood Carnival was born from a clear vision: to bring the celebration not to a single monumental square, but directly into the city's neighborhoods where families live. Organized by the Municipality of Pisa in collaboration with Pisamo, the initiative transforms squares and open spaces in the suburbs into small, child-friendly stages, featuring afternoons of entertainment, music, and costumed fun.

Neighborhoods and atmosphere

The beauty of this event lies in its decentralized nature: each appointment takes place in a different neighborhood of the Tuscan capital, in the province of Pisa. It starts in the La Cella area, moving through Cep, San Giusto-San Marco, the coastal hamlet of Marina di Pisa, and the Riglione-Oratoio area, culminating in a special event in the heart of the historic center. It is a way to enliven neighborhood bonds and offer families a festive occasion just a few steps from home.

What to expect

  • Face painting and mask-making workshops for the little ones
  • Music and afternoon entertainment
  • Traditional Carnival sweets
  • A family-friendly atmosphere and completely free admission

A community celebration

The municipal administration has repeatedly emphasized how initiatives of this kind represent an opportunity to rediscover the spirit of community and strengthen social ties, following the success of Christmas initiatives. It is not a large, spectacular carnival with floats, but a network of neighborhood parties designed for children, families, and the daily life of Pisa's districts.

Neighborhood Carnival — edition 2026

From 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, each date brought costumed entertainment, face painting, music, and traditional sweets to children and families, from La Cella to the historic center.

For 2026, the Municipality of Pisa, in collaboration with Pisamo, proposed six afternoons of decentralized festivities in the city's neighborhoods, all running from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM with free admission. A format designed to bring the Carnival directly to the districts, with entertainment for children and families.
